Xiaomi Redmi 3 vs Redmi 2: The new gen model to change the game for Xiaomi!
The Xiaomi Redmi 3 has finally been unveiled. Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi on Monday introduced its much-awaited entry level smartphone addition to the Redmi family of devices. Being the successor of the Redmi 2 that got launched last year, the third generation phone brings many significant upgrades in design as well as hardware.
Lenovo Vibe K4 Note First Impressions: A budget smartphone with interesting features
Xiaomi Redmi 3 is much powerful, which will help it take on its new-gen rival smartphones in the market that are way better than the Redmi 2. Considering that companies like LeTV 1S and Coolpad Note 3 are a few of its rivals in the budget segment, the Redmi 3 brings an HD display, premium design, 4100mAh battery and much more to be a tough competition.
Xiaomi Redmi 2 got good reviews for its performance, however with the advancements in hardware features and a better design, the Redmi 3 seems to be the company's bold new warrior against its rivals.

To give you a better idea of the specifications that the Redmi 3 brings on-board to offer much better experience than its previous generation variant, we compare the two smartphones on the basis of their specs on paper. Take a look:
Design:
Starting with the looks and design of the two siblings, Xiaomi has brought about a major change in the design of the phone. The Redmi 2 donned a plastic chassis, whereas the new Redmi smartphone flaunts a metal back cover, which makes it look as well as feel better than its older sibling. Also, the company has changed the position of camera set up this time by moving it to the top-left corner, instead of placing it in the centre like the Redmi 2.
We notice a difference that the Redmi 3 comes with a diamond-cut texture at the rear panel, which gives a much different look from the Redmi 2. Xiaomi apparently refers to this new design as an "all new lattice design", and says that it is made up of 4166 stars which have woven together to reflect a gorgeous arrangement of diamonds.
Moreover, measuring in at 8.5mm, the Redmi 3 is thinner than the Redmi 2 that measures 9.4mm thick. The new Redmi weighs in at 144g, which is 11g more than the Redmi 2. The slight increase in weight can be ignored considering that Redmi 3 has a much higher battery capacity.
Display:
Speaking of display, the Redmi 3 features a bigger display than the Redmi 2, but with the same resolution. On the Redmi 3, you get a 5.0-inch HD display offering 1280x720pixels resolution with pixel density of 294ppi, while the Redmi 2 sports a 4.7-icnh HD display with higher pixel count per inch of 312ppi, due to its comparatively smaller display.
The display, however, does not seem to have an additional glass protection, which was also missing on its predecessor.
Processor and Storage:
The Xiaomi Redmi 3 gets a huge upgrade in terms of its processing power. It runs on 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 chipset in comparison to the 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 chipset. The company has this time doubled the RAM size to 2GB and internal storage to 16GB, from 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage on Redmi 2.
The Redmi 3 also supports expandable memory of up to 32GB via a microSD card.
Camera:
In the camera department, the Redmi 3 boasts a 13MP rear camera, which has been upgraded from an 8MP snapper on its older sibling. Moreover, the camera is upported with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) with 0.1 fast focus speed, HDR mode, and full-HD recording. Up front, there is a 5MP snapper with f/2.2 aperture, full-HD video recording, face-detection and more. The Redmi 2 has 2MP sefie camera.
Battery:
The USP of the Redmi 3 is a huge 4100mAH Li-Poly battery on the inside. The Redmi 3 is Xiaomi's first device to pack in such a massive battery. The Redmi 2, on the other hand, features a 2200mAh battery. The point to notice is that the Redmi 3 comes with Fast Charging (5V/2A) support, which was missing on its predecessor.
OS:
The Redmi 2 was shipped with a dated Android version, the 4.4 KitKat wrapped under the native MIUI 6.0 skin. Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 3 with Android Lollipop with the company's latest MIUI 7.0 skin.
Price:
Xiaomi has priced the Redmi 3 at 699 Yuan (Rs. 7,058 approx.), which is marginally higher than price at which it launched the Redmi 2. We look forward to test the device when it gets launched in India.
