Japan's largest mobile carrier, NTT Docomo, on Wednesday unveiled its latest smartphone that uses an iris scan to authenticate the user and unlock the device automatically.

Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G Uses a Retina Scanner For Mobile Payments

Manufactured by Fujitsu, the phone is expected to hit the market in late May and will be the first handset of its kind that will offer users a built-in iris pattern scanning feature.

As mentioned earlier, the Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G uses iris recognition to replace phone passwords, and can even be used to send payments. Instead of cumbersome passwords or fingerprint scans, you can unlock your device with a blink of an eye.

The smartphone uses a front-facing infrared camera and an infrared LED light to illuminate the user's eyes, verifying their unique iris pattern.

Hardware-wise, the handset features a 5.2-inch QHD (2K resolution) display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 21MP camera and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop.

As of now, the Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G is restricted to the Japanese market. Biometrics are becoming more popular with passing day. Just a day back, Vivo unveiled its iris-scanning smartphone, the X5 Pro, in China.
