Galaxy Grand: 5 Hard Challengers of Samsung's Jelly Bean Phablet Priced at Rs 21,500
Android smartphones seem to be increasing in size as the manufacturers are integrating bigger displays into their handsets. These large sized handsets also known as phablets, are becoming popular as they are convenient for watching videos, playing games and browsing internet.
At the same time, the demand for low priced handsets is also on the rise in India pushing the envelope of budget phablets into full swing. Both local and global mobile makers are introducing economic Android based phablets into the Indian market.
Well known native handset manufactures including Micromax, Intex, Karbonn, Lava, Wickedleak and Zync alongside Samsung - the world's largest smartphone maker have entered into a battle when it comes to affordable dual SIM phablets.
On Tuesday, Samsung released its Jelly Bean based phablet with dual SIM support for the Indian market - Galaxy Grand. The phablet features a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, 1.2GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage, micro SD card slot supporting up to 64GB additional storage, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a 2,100 mAh battery.
Priced at Rs 21,500 and supporting dual SIM feature, the new Samsung offering will definitely be a potential rival to the budget dual SIM phablets offered by the India based manufacturers.
The contenders standing in line for the title of 'best duel sim phablet', against Galaxy Grand are Micromax A116 Canvas HD, Wickedleak Wammy Titan, Karbonn A30, Lava Iris 501, Zync Cloud Z5 (dual core version).

Micromax A116 Canvas HD
Micromax A116 comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and 5-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, 8MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 1.2GHz quad core MediaTek MT6589 processor, 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, micro SD card slot, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity and a battery capacity of 2,100 mAh. Sources suggest that the smartphone will be priced at Rs 15,000 and will launch in India next month.
With a quad core processor and better display, the low priced Micromax offering could be a potential rival to Galaxy Grand, which comes with increased storage option and better front canera.
Wickedleak Wammy Titan
Wickedleak Wammy Titan comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean O.S and a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display of 960 x 540 pixel resolution, 1.2GHz MTK6577 processor, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 4GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and a 2,500 mAh battery. Priced at Rs 13,000, the handset boasting similar specifications as Galaxy Grand could definitely be a stiff competitor to the latter.
Karbonn A30
Karbonn A30 is the only phablet available in India with a spacious 5.9 inch display. When it comes to specs, A30 has a 5.9 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, 1GHz processor, 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and a 2,500 mAh battery. The handset is priced at Rs 10,990.
With a larger display and lesser price tag, the Karbonn phablet can be considered as a tough challenger for the Samsung offering that is loaded with Jelly Bean OS.
Lava Iris 501
Lava Iris 501 comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and 5-inch WVGA display packs a 5 MP rear camera with LED Flash, VGA front camera, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 512 MB RAM, microSD slot , 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, dual-SIM, USB, 2.0 GPS connectivity. The hand-phone is priced at Rs. 9,999.
Again, with a lesser price, Iris 501 will be a competitor to Galaxy Grand, which has better specifications including faster processor, better camera and increased storage.
Zync Cloud Z5
Zync Cloud Z5 comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and and 5-inch touchscreen display. The smartphone sports a 8 MP camera in the back, 0.3 MP camera on the front, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 512 MB RAM, dual-SIM, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 2,500 mAh battery.
Priced at Rs 11,990 and loaded with similar specs as Galaxy Grand, the dual core variant of Zync phablet might also be a potential rival to the Samsung offering.
