Galaxy S3, Asha 305, Nexus 7: GSMA Awards Samsung, Nokia and Google Devices at MWC 2013

GSM Association usually awards the best devices, apps and technologies for the year. On Tuesday, GSMA announced the winners of the 18th Annual Global Mobile awards at the MWC 2013 tech show in Barcelona.

The best smartphone award of 2012 goes to Samsung Galaxy S3 and the best entry-level handset award goes to Nokia Asha 305. The awards are not only restricted to handsets, but exists also for tablets. Google Nexus 7 has grabbed the best tablet of the year award.

These awards were given on the basis of the innovation, commercial success and the impact they have created on the market. In all these factors, Galaxy S3 has surpassed iPhone 5, Lumia 920, Galaxy Note 2 and Droid DNA (U.S. variant of Butterfly). At the same time, Asha 305 was able to succeed the other Nokia Asha offerings and Samsung C3312. Moreover, Nokia has dominated the feature phone segment with its quality devices.

When it comes to tablet, Google Nexus 7 made by Asus has taken the beat over the iPad Mini, iPad 4, Amazon Kindle Fire HD, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and Asus Transformer Infinity.

Besides these devices, Facebook won Best Mobile App for Consumers, Evernote won as Best Enterprise App, while the Best Overall App selection went to the Waze navigation app.

Also, today, GSMA will announce the Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet that was launched at the Mobile World Congress 2013.

With the winners of GSMA awards known, lets have a quick look at their specifications of these devices.

Galaxy S3 features a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection, quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor, 8MP rear camera, 1.9MP front camera, 16/32GB internal memory, micro SD card slot supporting up to 64GB expandable memory, Also, the handset is packed with features like NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 2,100 mAh Li-ion battery. Galaxy S3 costs Rs 29,500 after the recent price cut.

When it comes to Asha 305, the handset packs a 3 inch TFT resistive touchscreen display with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels, Symbian S40 platform, 1GHz processor, 2MP rear camera, 126MB internal storage, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micro USB 2.0 and a 1,100 mAh battery offering 14 hours talk time and 528 hours standby. Asha 305 is priced at Rs 4,149 in India.

Speaking of Nexus 7, the tablet comes with a 7 inch 10 point multi-touch IPS display with 1280 x 800 resolution, quad core 1.2GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS (upgradeable to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean), 1GB RAM, 16GB/32GB internal storage, 1.2MP front camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, 4,325 mAh battery and NFC connectivity and is priced at Rs 19,500 approximately for the 16GB variant.
