Gionee is doing quite well in the Indian market as compared to its fellow native rivals. The company has already launched mid-range premium devices including Elife E6, Elife E7 and the compact version last year. The best so far that we have seen from the company is the Elife S5.5.
The Gionee smartphone range in pretty good, but what lacks in the devices are the delayed updates. But it looks like the China based company is all set to release Android i.e. v4.4.2 or KitKat update to its slimmest smartphone really soon.
GizBot has just got a confirmed information from the company, that Gionee is going to treat the Elife S5.5 with KitKat version today only, that is, July 2nd and the OTA update will be released around 2 pm in India.

First off, one you install the update, you will get a New Desktop layout. The update will also remove the world cricket champion and brings Du speed booster for faster operations.
The company's proprietary UI will also be overhauled along with Amigo Paper. Users will also notice changes in Game Zone with a new UI interface design and updated GioneeXender will be serving better as it optimizes performance and further improved the linking success rate.
The pre-loaded UC browser app will also be updated with optimized UI interface and page loading effects. Other improvements include: updated NQ Mobile Security for better protection of your phone; Updated kingsoft WPS for more efficient work and study related operations; Updated map with only one entrance into the main menu; and Theme and wallpaper will be reset to default after system update, but data will not be lost. Simply re-apply chosen theme and wallpaper.
Obviously, regular KitKat features like cloud-printing and other perks will also be included in the update. If you don't receive the update automatically, you can head on to your phone's Settings > About phone > Software update, to manually check for the same.
Gionee Elife S5.5: Key Specs
Originally unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year, Gionee's Elife S5.5 initially ran Android Jelly Bean v4.2. It packs a 5.0-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The world's slimmest smartphone also features a 1.7GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor with Mali 450-MP4 GPU coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. Other specs include: 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED Flash, 5MP front-facing camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth 4.0 , A-GPS, USB OTG and 2300mAh battery. The phone is prices in the market around Rs 21,000.
