Gionee P1 India Release: Will You Buy Rs 4999 Android Handset Instead of Micromax Bolt A51?
Micromax is a well known name in the Indian smartphone market. The firm banged the first position in terms of tablet sales and the second position in the smartphone sales being next to Samsung's popular Galaxy lineup of handsets.
Moreover, Micromax seems to have understood the pulse of the users very well as it has launched the Canvas HD with dual SIM and high-end specifications for the budget conscious consumers who may not be able to afford high-end phablets like Galaxy Note 2. At the same time, the company is also launching entry-level smartphones for those consumers who are trying their hands on smartphones for the first time. Recently, the company launched one such handset - A51 Bolt.
Priced at Rs 4,599, the handset is highly wallet friendly and packs basic specs that is desired for the common man. Now, I seems like Chinese manufacturer Gionee has also joined the list as it has also stepped into the crowded budget smartphone market segment as it has come up with a new handset called Gionee P1 at Rs 4,999.

Specwise, both the handset might be quite similar with a few differences, but the big question now is, can Gionee outshine the fame of Micromax in terms of handset sales in the nation? Well, for that we need to wait and watch. Anyways, Gizbot has come up with its usual task - a spec comparison on Gionee P1 and Micromax A51 Bolt. Have a look at it below.
Display: Gionee P1 and Bolt A51 have a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels.
Processor: Gionee P1 comes with a 1GHz MediaTek MT6515M processor and A51 Bolt is powered by an 832MHz processor. Being faster, the MediaTek processor will exhibit better power efficiency.
Operating System: Both Gionee P1 and A51 Bolt are based on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread platform, which is an older version of the operating system.
Camera: Again, in terms of camera optics, both the smartphones have a 2MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front camera for video calling.
Storage: Both Gionee P1 and Bolt A51 have 512MB internal storage, 256MB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 16GB additional storage.
Connectivity: In this segment, Gionee P1 and Bolt A51 come packed with connectivity features including Bluetooth, 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi and micro USB 2.0.
Battery: Both the handset are loaded with a 1,500 mAh battery.
Other Features: Bolt A51 comes preloaded applications including MiStore and MiBuddy as the other Micromax smartphones and Flash Transfer as in Bolt A35. At the same time, Gionee P1 is bundled with freebies including a free 4GB SD card, 2 cases and a screen guard as an introductory offer.
Price: Micromax Bolt A51 and Gionee P1 are priced at Rs 4,599 and Rs 4,999 respectively.
Verdict
Gionee P1 and Micromax Bolt A51 are entry-level smartphone offerings in the sub Rs 5,000 price range and being based on Gingerbread OS, they will offer similar user experience.
Boasting almost similar specifications expect for a minor difference in the processor speed and a marginal price difference, they fall in the same segment. And, it is based on the users to decide which one to buy. Anyways, while having a Micromax smartphone with a good reputation in the market, how many consumers will opt for Gionee is a something that is questionable.
