HTC 8X vs Nokia Lumia 920: The Big Fight
Yesterday, HTC stole a march from Nokia, when the Taiwanese phone manufacturer unveiled its Windows Phone 8 handsets at a special media event in New York. HTC 8X and 8S will hit the retail shelves only in November, after the official release of the Microsoft next-gen Windows Phone 8 OS.
At the same time, they very likely share common features with the newly launched Nokia Lumia WP8 range – Nokia Lumia 920, 820. It seems the big fight fight is going to be between the superiors, that is, HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920.
So what will it be? HTC 8X or Nokia Lumia 920? Which WP8 Appllo handset is it going to be for you? Gizbot has come up with a spec comparison between the two smartphones and how they will stack up against each other in the Windows war.
Design: Both the smartphones are uni-bodied and well crafted as far as designing is concerned, however, 8X is slimmer and lighter than the Lumia 920.
HTC 8X carries a dimension of 132.35 x 66.2 x 10.12 mm, weighing at 130 grams and Lumia 920 boasts a dimension of 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7 mm and a weight of around 185 grams.
Display: HTC 8X houses a 4.3 inch Super LCD 2 HD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while Lumia 920 sports a larger 4.5 inch PureMotion HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 768 pixel resolution.
Further, both the displays are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
Operating System: In this segment, both 8X and Lumia 920 are powered by the upcoming Windows Phone 8 OS.
Windows Phone 8 has improved features like dynamic Live Tile Information, social network integration in the People hub, Skydrive and Office 365 documents synchronization, Facebook-events integrated calendar, visual voicemail, threaded email conversations support and many more.
Processor: Both the smartphones will have a head-to-head in this zone, as HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920, both are powered by the same dual core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.
Camera: On the camera optics front, 8X has an 8MP camera with auto focus, LED flash and BSI sensor and a front facing 2.1MP camera for video calling boasting similar quality as seen in HTC One X and One S.
On the other hand, Lumia 920 packs an 8.7MP rear camera with dual LED flash, autofocus and PureView branding (similar to Nokia Pureview 808) and a 1.2MP front camera.
Storage: While 8X has 16 GB internal memory accompanied with a 512GB RAM, Lumia 920 has 32GB internal memory and 1GB RAM. Further, the Nokia WP8 handset also will come with a 7GB of free Microsoft SkyDrive storage, which is common for all Microsoft phones, however HTC has not confirmed yet.
Instead, HTC 8X will come with the likes of Beats Audio technology and memory storage. Although, Lumia 920 and 8X, both lack an external micro SD card slot for expandable memory support.
Connectivity: On the connectivity front, Lumia 920 has features like NFC, Bluetooth 3.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Qi Wireless Charging and Wi-Fi Channel Bonding. In comparison, 8X also has NFC, Bluetooth v2.1+EDR and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n features.
Battery: 8X is loaded with a 1,800 mAh Li-Po battery while Lumia 920 is equipped with a 2,000 mAh BP-4GW battery, which offers 400 hours standby and 10 hours talk time.
Verdict
As both the smartphones - HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 are based on Windows Phone 8 OS, they will have similar software features and UI experience.
Moreover, HTC brings in the Beats Audio integration like the other smartphones from the Taiwanese vendor, while Lumia 920 has some groundbreaking features like wireless charging, glove friendly touchscreen and more.
If you like to have the best screen display, a pocket-friendly lightweight gadget, a better front camera, Beats Audio technology, then HTC 8X will be the one you require.
However, if a good memory capacity is a big concern for you and you are also a camera technology enthusiast with the likes of Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps apps and Nokia Music app, then go for Nokia Lumia 920 when it gets released in the market.
Further, when it comes to color variants HTC 8X will be available in Red, yellow, black and blue models, on the other hand, Lumia 920 will come splashing with Red, yellow, black, white and gray colors.
