HTC Butterfly Specs Versus The Competitors: 5 Inch 1080p Display, Quad Core Fight!

While high-end devices including Samsung Galaxy S3, Nokia Lumia 920 or HTC One X+ sporting 720p displays were the talk of the town last year, however smartphones flaunting stunning HD 1080p displays are tend to become the trend in 2013. Plus, with the add on of heavyweight specifications, especially, the integration of Quad Core processors, the tech arena battle is sizzling these days.

This HD 1080p displays trend was formerly preceded by HTC J Butterfly and Droid DNA in 2012, which was followed by manufacturers like Sony and Huawei, who have also come up with similar offerings at CES 2013.

When it comes to specs, Butterfly boasts a 5 inch LCD 3 capacitive touchscreen display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 2, 1.5GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS topped with HTC Sense 4 UI, 8MP rear camera with BSI sensor, 2.1MP front camera for video calling, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, HDMI out, Bluetooth, NFC, micro USB and a 2,020 mAh battery.

The handset will actually make a hole in your pocket, as it is priced at Rs 45,999, but it does comes with really spectacular features including Beats Audio integration, ImageSense chip and lastly it is water resistant.

Reports are also rife that soon the Indian smartphone arena will also witness Xperia Z and Ascend D2 release. With a slew of 1080p HD display handsets hitting the market, it is definite that to win over each other in the smartphone race, manufacturers will try to come out with models boasting crisper, clearer and vivid displays along with beefier specifications and high battery.

Moreover, it is widespread that HTC will launch M7, a 4.7 inch 1080p smartphone a week ahead of MWC 2013 and Samsung is also planning to launch a 5 inch 1080p handset - Galaxy S4 in April this year. Further, LG is also rumored to come up with Optimus G2 and has launched Optimus G Pro in Japan with 5 inch 1080p display.

Hence, it can be concluded that HTC will definitely face a tough competition considering its hefty price tag in the Indian market, which is already flooded with a plethora of launches is expected to welcome more 1080p handsets in the near future.

The Japanese mobile maket offering comes with a 5 inch full HD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and with Mobile Bravia Engine 2, quad core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, 13MP rear camera, 2.2MP front camera for video calling, 16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, 4G LTE and a 2,330 mAh battery.

Yet to be released into India, Xperia Z comes with a better camera, improved battery and is water/dust resistant as compared to Butterfly with Beats Audio and ImageSense integrations.

LG Optimus Vu 2

LG released Optimus Vu in India several months after its launch at MWC 2012. Meanwhile, the company announced Optimus Vu 2, which is yet to make its way into the country.

Internationally, Optimus Vu 2 packs a 5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio HD-IPS display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, 1.5GHz quad core Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera for video calling, 16GB internal memory, 2GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, A-GPS, micro USB 2.0, NFC and a 2,150 mAh Li-ion battery.

Hence with Jelly Bean OS and improved camera performance, HTC offering could be a potential rival to Optimus Vu 2, when it lands in India.

Apple iPhone 5

As HTC has launched Butterfly in India at Rs 45,999, the handset falls in the price war with premium priced smartphone in the market, that is, iPhone 5. Apple has priced iPhone 5 at Rs 45,500, Rs 52,500 and Rs 59,500 for 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants respectively.

When it comes to specs, iPhone 5 sports a 4 inch display with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels, a new Apple A6 chipset, 1GB RAM, 16GB/32GB/64GB internal memory, 8MP rear camera with iSight technology, 1.2MP front camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, 3G, micro USB 2.0 and a battery with 8 hours talk time and 225 hours standby.

Though iPhone 5 did not have Retina display, it has a 4 inch display with 1136 x 640 pixel resolution and 326 ppi pixel density. However, Butterfly with a 440 ppi display could easily knockout the Apple offering. Comparing the other specs, it is evident that Butterfly with better specifications and advanced software features could be a sure competitor to the Apple iPhone 5.

Nokia Lumia 920

Early this month, Nokia released its flagship smartphone based on Windows Phone 8 - Lumia 920 in India. The handset sports a 4.5 inch IPS LCD touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels along with PureMotion+ HD and ClearBlack display technologies, 8.7MP rear camera with PureView branding, 1.3MP front camera, 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micro USB 2.0, NFC connectivity and 2,000 mAh Li-ion battery.

Lumia 920 is priced at Rs 38,199 and is available in Red, Yellow, Cyan, White and Black color options. With a better display and improved camera technology, the HTC offering could be a challenger for Lumia 920, which comes with a relatively lesser price tag and PureView technology.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Galaxy Note 2, the second generation Samsung phablet and the hottest selling phablet in the world is selling in India at Rs 36,700.

Moreover, Galaxy Note 2 has an improved stylus with rubber tip for better touch response. However, Butterfly comes with a 1080p display, and improved camera performance as compared to Galaxy Note 2 with a faster processor and larger display.

With a better camera, improved battery and increased internal storage, Ascend D2 can be considered a stiff competitor Butterfly, which comes with Beats Audio and waterproof protection.
