April is turning out to be the month, when India will witness the price fight drama on the premium mobile grounds. Already, HTC has laid its most powerful warrior - HTC One in the India tech arena. At the same time, the South Korean tech titan Samsung has also started teasing its super phone launch - Galaxy S4 for India.
Well, its clear that when HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 would finally get released in India, both the titans will go head to head on the mobile market battleground. But the biggest question is on what factors will they try to win over the Indian consumer's heart?
Both the smartphones are the most recognizable Android devices of the year. Likewise other flagship smartphones, the two Android behemoths also come with high-end specs including a large 1080p display, faster quad core processor and more, but what about the other aspects that the consumers will have to look at before opting to buy one?
Well, all that can be said is, right now, specification wise the duo beat out each other at several different points. However, to win over each other the companies will have to pitch their strategies based on pricing - as the biggest factor to lure the sales.
When it comes to HTC One, the handset has been officially launched in India at a price of Rs 42,900 and it will be hitting the retail stores from the third or fourth week of April. At the same time, Galaxy S4 is also rumored to release the Galaxy S4 in India in the last week of April ( guesstimate April 25) in the sub Rs 40,000 price range.
Analyzing the pricing of HTC One and Galaxy S4, it is clear that the Indian grounds will soon witness a massive price fight between the two flagship smartphones from the Asian tech titans.
For those who are thinking to upgrade to either HTC One or Galaxy S4 and waiting for them to release in the market, can have a look at the Gizbot comparison between the two Android behemoths.
Form Factor: Galaxy S4 measures 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm in dimension and 130 grams in weight, which is lightweight and thin as compared to One carrying a dimension of 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm and a weight of around 143 grams.
On the display front, Galaxy S4 packs a 4.99 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 441 ppi approximately. The mulit-touch display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Super AMOLED display offers a thinner design and uses less power and reflects less light, thereby improving the outdoor performance.
In comparison, HTC One boasts a 4.7 inch Super LCD3 multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and an eye-popping pixel density of 469. Further, the display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 2. It is to be noted that the increased pixel density in the smartphone will be combined with the Super LCD 3 display offering faster response times.
Processor: In this segment, Galaxy S4 is power packed with an Exynos 5 Octa 5410 processor, while HTC One has a 1.7GHz quad core Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600 processor.
While the Qualcomm chip can increase the power management capabilities, multimedia performance and offer fast graphic processing, the Octa processor in Galaxy S4 has a 1.6GHz quad core Cortex A15 processor and a 1.2GHz quad core Cortex A7 processor that combine to offer maximum performance with up to 70% energy saving.
Operating System: Galaxy S4 scores more here with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system, while One is based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. Hence, Galaxy S4 will have features including Photo Sphere camera, Gesture Typing, Miracast, DayDream, improved notifications, quick settings, support to multiple user accounts, improved Google Now and more.
Camera: On the camera front, Galaxy S4 has a 13MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, dual shot, HDR and a 2MP front camera with 1080p video recording capability.
On the other hand, One scores with a 4MP camera termed as 'UltraPixel' with autofocus, LED flash, optical image stabilization and a 2.1MP front camera for video calling. Further, both the handsets are capable of recording 1080p videos. The UltraPixel camera is similar to the one used in advanced compact cameras. Further, these UltraPixel cameras are claimed to offer better low light performance.
Storage: Galaxy S4 comes in three variants - 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage, 2GB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 64GB. At the same time, HTC One comes with 32GB/64GB internal storage, 2GB RAM and lacks a micro SD card slot for expandable storage support.
Connectivity: Galaxy S4 and HTC One come with fast connectivity speeds and usual features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, micro USB 2.0 and Infrared sensor.
Battery: Galaxy S4 has a 2,600 mAh battery and HTC One comes with 2,330 mAh battery.
Price: HTC One is priced starting at Rs 42,900 and Galaxy S4 is estimated to be priced below Rs 40,000 approximately.
Other Features: Galaxy S4 is packed some innovative features including Story Album, Group Play, S Translator, Samsung Smart Pause, Samsung Smart Scroll, Air View, Air Gesture, S Voice Drive, Samsung Optical Reader and more.
At the same time, HTC One with Sense 5 UI comes with features such as BlinkFeed, Zoe, BoomSound and Sense Voice for a enhanced user experience.
Looking at the specifications and feature aspects of both the phones, Galaxy S4 and HTC One mainly differ in terms of operating system, camera, internal storage and overall UI.
One has to note, that S4 maybe having a higher operating system and more options, when it comes to internal memory capacity. But at the same time, HTC One comes with several camera features and a vivid Android-Windows Phone hybrid user interface.
All that can be said right now is, we will have to wait and watch for the pricing of Galaxy S4 32 GB, to be more approximate, to decide, who is going to win and who is going to lose in this price battle.
