Huawei Ascend W1 and W2: Two Windows Phone 8 Smartphones Pegged for 2013 Release
With the release of Windows Phone 8 OS, the first wave of smartphones based on the platform – HTC 8X, HTC 8S, Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 820 and Samsung Ativ S are all set to release in the global market sometime this month. Already, HTC has unveiled the Windows Phone 8 duo in India and 8X is available on pre-order for a price of Rs 35,032.
In the meantime, Huawei – another Windows Phone 8 handset manufacturer has been constantly making rounds in rumors that it is planning to unveil its WP8 offering starting from September 2012.
Now, it seems like Huawei is gearing up for a major launch of several new smartphones in early 2013, both for the Android and Windows Phone platforms. However, right now the tech enthusiasts are eager about the Microsoft OS based handsets and Ascend W1 and Ascend W2 are the two Windows smartphones from the Chinese handset vendor to enter the territory of the Redmond based software giant's mobile OS.
According to a recent WPDang report, the Chinese site claims that Huawei will release two handsets based on the latest incarnation of Windows Phone platform in Las Vegas during the Consumer Electronics Show 2013 in January.
Though nothing much is known about these Huawei Windows Phone 8 smartphones as far as actual hardware specs are concerned, both handsets are expected to arrive in early 2013.
Earlier reports claim that Ascend W1 has a 4 inch display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, 5MP rear camera with LED flash, VGA front-facing camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory, micro SD card support and 2,000 mAh battery.
More smartphone specifications…
Further, as per an earlier report by Digitimes, Huawei has a trump card in its sleeve with the pricing - $310 (approx. Rs 17,000) for unlocked version, which will make Ascend W1 the cheapest Windows Phone 8 smartphone once it launches.
