Huawei Launches New R&D Centre in Bangalore
The Chinese handset maker Huawei today announced that, it has established a new R&D centre in Whitefield, Banglore. The campus is built on a huge 20 acre land, which will accommodate 5,000 engineers, also including an R&D Block, customer experience center, multilevel car park, large cafeteria, and residential block for expat employees. The company has invested over US$ 170 million (approxRs. 1,051 crores) in the new campus in Bangalore.
"As a global ICT organization which relies on its own extensive R&D expertise, the India R&D centre is an important hub of innovation for Huawei. The India R&D center will continue to focus on development and delivery of high quality software platforms, components and applications for the various product lines of the parent company. This new campus is the fulfillment of our long cherished dream - a world-class facility that will further serve the technology development in Huawei to realize our unique value. The expansion of this campus is a reiteration of Huawei's commitment to R&D and overall growth of the ICT ecosystem in India and around the world", said, Wilson Wang, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Huawei India Research and Development (R & D) Center.
Also, Huawei established its first overseas R&D center in 1999 in Bangalore to develop cutting-edge products and solutions in this fast growing telecom industry. Today it employs over 2,700 engineers, where 98% are local employees. It is also the largest and the most important R&D center of Huawei, outside of China.
