Idea Ivory Launched at Rs 7,390: Top 5 Fierce Challengers of Dual SIM Android 4.0 Smartphone

Idea Cellular has always been a big name when the talk is about the telecom operators of India, however, in the smartphone industry the company is still struggling to secure sales in the market. But with the outset of 2013, it seems Idea Cellular has turned really aggressive to attain success in the smartphone world.

The Indian telecom operator has come up with a new 3G dual SIM smartphone based on Android dubbed as Ivory. Powered by Android 4.0 ICS operating system, the handset is priced at Rs 7,390. The handset was launched on Tuesday at a special event held in Hyderabad.

Ivory is the fifth Android smartphone released into the market by the teleco, with the other four smartphones being Idea Aurus, Idea Blade, Idea ID-918 and Idea ID-280.

According to Idea Cellular, Ivory smartphone packs a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen display, 1GHz processor, 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, micro SD card slot, 3.2MP rear camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 1,300 mAh battery.

Idea Ivory comes preloaded with a number of applications including Facebook, Twitter, Music Video Player, documents to go and more.

Further, Idea is offering 1GB of 3G data every month for first 3 months along with subscription to Idea TV for a one-time charge of Rs 261.

With this information made clear, it is clear that Idea Cellular has entered into a direct fight with all the other companies that have launched smartphones in sub range Rs 10,000. Several Indian companies have forayed this segment of the market with a plethora of launches, thereby prompting even global vendors including Sony to launch handsets in the sub Rs 10,000 price range.

Music Duos packs a 3 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 320 x 240 pixel resolution, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB, 3MP rear camera, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, micro USB 2.0 and a 1,300 mAh Li-ion battery.

Samsung has priced Galaxy Music Duos at Rs 8,990 making it more expensive as compared to the Idea smartphone. However, with music related features, the Samsung offering could be a stiff competitor to the Idea offering.

Sony Xperia Tipo Dual

Sony has also forayed into the budget segment of the smartphone market with Xperia Tipo and Xperia Tipo Dual.

Xperia Tipo Dual houses a 3.2 inch multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with 320 x 480 pixel resolution, 800MHz Cortex A5 processor, Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, 3.15MP rear camera, 2GB internal memory, 512MB RAM, a micro SD card slot, which supports expandable memory up to 32GB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi features, micro USB 2.0 and a 1,500 mAh Li-ion battery.

The handset is priced at Rs 9,990 making the cheaper Idea Ivory with a better battery, increased internal storage and better processor to be a potential rival.

Micromax Smarty a68

Micromax has launched Smarty A68 boasting a 4 inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, 1GHz processor, Android 4.0.4 ICS operating system, 5MP rear camera, 2GB internal storage, 512MB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage.

In terms of data connectivity, the handset has features including Wi-Fi, 2G, GPRS and Bluetooth. Smarty A68 is powered by a 1,600 mAh Li-ion battery delivering 5 hours talktime and 144 hours standby.

With a lesser price tag of Rs 6,499 and with a larger display and improved camera performance, the Micromax offering could become a fierce competitor to Ivory.

When it comes to A15, the handset houses a 4 inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, 1GHz single core processor, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable memory, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 3MP rear camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, micro USB 2.0, and 1,420 mAh Li-ion battery of undisclosed backup.

Karbonn has priced at Rs 5,899 and comes with a larger display and better processor while having lesser battery performance as compared to the Idea offering.

Lava Iris N400

Lava Iris N400

India based manufacturer, Lava launched Iris N400, a dual SIM smartphone flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at Rs 6,399.

Speaking of specs, Iris N400 packs a 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, 1GHz processor, Android 4.0 ICS operating system, 5MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera for video calling, 127MB onboard storage, 512MB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, micro USB 2.0, Wi-Fi features, 3G, Bluetooth and a 1,500 mAh Li-ion battery.

With a lesser price tag, larger display and front camera for video calling, the Lava offering should be a rival to the Idea smartphone.
