Jolla Releases 'The First One' Smartphone with Sailfish OS: UI And Other Unique Features
The biggest problem with the Android devices today is that they usually drain out the battery at a very fast pace and the UI getsvery slow as the time passes.
To meet these issues a new smartphone has been launch based on Sailfish OS byJolla - the brainchild of a group of ex-Nokia employees and MeeGo developers.
Sailfish operating system which was demoed a year ago, based on the Linux based Meego OS which made it appearance with the Nokia N9 but did not get much popular during that time.
The best part, Sailfish OS supports the Android applications and can be operated with some unusual gestures.
Basically the Sailfish OS is unique and many users are willing to try this new OS and that is the reason Jolla has launched a new smartphone named ‘The First One' with this new Sailfish OS.
Nearly 450 devices have been distributed among the audience who were there to attend the event in Finland. Essentially, these were the 450 customers who pre-ordered the devices during May this year. The specifications of the device are not astonishing instead its an average device, giving us a hint that the price will also be in the range of Rs 20,000 if it lands in India.
Jolla ‘The First One' - Key Specs
The size of the display is 4.5 Inches with qHD resolution and it comes with the Dual Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (1.4 GHz) processor. The processor is something which is outdated and the benchmark scores of this processor are not good enough to tell you that UI Lag issues have happened with the devices having this processor.
Memory allocation includes 16GB of internal storage (with a microSD slot) and 1GB for RAM. The primary or the rear camera has an 8 MP camera wth LED flash along with 2 MP camera on the front screen. Co-Founder of Jolla also stated that they have also received the pre-order for this device from more than 130 countries and within few days the stock will be made available for the international sales.

The battery strength of 2100 mAh is good because we have usually seen 1800 mAh battery in the smartphones with display size of 4.5 Inches. Sailfish is overall a new OS or one can also say that it is a new skin because it will support all the Android applications and so its competitors will be HTC Sense, Touchwiz and other skins for Android. If Jolla manages to give users a lag-less UI experience with better battery backup, then it will be a huge hit and a strong competitor for the traditional Android devices.
In the slides below, lets take a look at the striking UI features of Sailfish OS.
