Mobile shipments have increased in Q3 2012 as there were a plethora of high quality dual SIM Android smartphone launches that came with budget price tags in order to grab a significant share of the price conscious Indian market. Two such companies that have splashed the consumer base with noteworthy handsets are Micromax and Karbonn. Recently, Karbonn Mobiles launched A15, a dual SIM Android ICS smartphone in India with a price tag of Rs 5,899. While the other smartphones in that price range run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, Karbonn has managed to incorporate ICS, the updated version, which is an added advantage.

Lately, Micromax launched A87 Superfone Ninja 4 with dual SIM feature, Android Gingerbread and with a price tag of Rs 5,490.

Display: Both A15 and Ninja 4 sport a 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

Processor & Storage: While A15 is powered by a 1GHz processor, A87 Ninja 4 is equipped with a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Moreover, both the handsets come with a micro SD card slot for expandable memory support.

Operating System: In this segment, A15 scores more with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS as compared to outdated version, Android 2.3 Gingerbread in Ninja 4.

Camera: When it comes to camera optics, A15 packs a 3MP rear camera, whereas, Ninja 4 sports a 2MP rear camera. However, both the handsets lack a front facing camera for video calling.

Connectivity: In terms of connectivity, both the handsets come packed with features including micro USB 2.0, Wi-Fi features, 3G and Bluetooth.

Verdict

Both Karbonn A15 and Micromax A87 Superfone Ninja 4 are entry-level low cost Android smartphones with dual SIM support and decent specifications.

When it comes to software features, the Micromax offering scores more with Aisha voice assistant application letting users to search by speaking.

At the same time, Karbonn A15 is flavored with Android 4.0 ICS and hence, it will offer a better user experience and has a slightly improved camera.

Moreover, both the handsets fall in the same price point with not much difference and have similar display, processor, battery and connectivity features. Hence, the buying decision depends on the consumers based on which version of Android they like to work on.
