After launching A8 smartphone recently, Karbonn has now pushed another handset called the A9 Star at a price of Rs. 5,699 on online retail site. The device comes with a relatively small display when compared to its other models which come at the same price range. As of now, Micromax has been quoted to be the top domestic manufacturer but looking at the way Karbonn is making its way in the market, it seems to be catching up with Micromax.
The newly launched Karbonn A9 Star is a sub mid range handset that comes with pretty decent specs. Have a look at the specs below:
It comes packed with a 3.9 inches Capacitive Touchscreen display which offers a WVGA resolution of 480 x 800 pixels .
The handset runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system which is quite old compared to competing models that come pre-loaded with Jelly Bean 4.1, 4.2 and even 4.3.
Karbonn A9 Star is powered by a 1 GHz Dual Core Processor coupled with 512 MB of RAM. The CPU and RAM is fair enough given the price of the handset. A Gravity Sensor comes attached with the device.
Moving on to the camera, there is a 5 megapixel rear shooter capable of taking pictures at 2592x1944 pixels quality and a front facing VGA snapper is also an additional perk.
In the connectivity section, Bluetooth, GPRS, 3G , WiFi 802.11 b/g/n , WAP and GPS Navigation can be found and like most of the Indian handsets, Karbonn A9 Star also comes with a Dual Sim Support (WCDMA + GSM ).
Talking about the internal storage capacity, there is a 4 GB memory which is expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card.

Since, many desi manufacturers have been coming into the smartphone arena it is pretty obvious that any newcomer will face a fierce rivalry. Moreover, since Karbonn A9 Star falls in the price category where most manufacturers have been eying at. The device will surely have to battle the odds. More precisely, Lava Iris 405, Karbonn A6, Spice Smart Flo Ivory Mi-450, Lava Iris 356 and Spice Smart Flo Pace Mi-422 will definitely rival the Karbonn newbie among others.
Lava Iris 405
The Lava Iris 405, which costs Rs. 6,209 in the Indian market, packs some really cool features: a 4-inch display with resolution of 480X 800 pixels, 1-Ghz Dual-Core processor, 3G, Wi-Fi, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 5-mega pixel rear camera with LED Flash, VGA quality front facing camera, Dual SIM and added 8X zoom functionality, image stabilization and zero shutter lag like useful imaging features. The device is powered by a Li-Ion, 1400 mAh battery.
A6 sports a 4 inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a WVGA resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, 1GHz single core processor, Android 4.0 ICS, 5MP rear camera, VGA front camera for video calling, 104MB, micro SD card slot, 512MB RAM, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and a 1,450 mAh battery offering up to 3.5 hours talk time and 250 hours standby. The handset is available at Rs. 5,070.
Spice Smart Flo Ivory Mi-450
Spice Smart Flo Ivory Mi-450 priced at Rs. 5,699 runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and is stuffed with a dual core processor. It comes with a 4.5 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 854 x 480 pixel resolution, 1GHz dual core processor, dual SIM support, 3.2MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera, 2G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, micro USB, 512MB RAM, 512 MB internal memory, expandable memory with microSD and a 1,500 mAh battery.
Lava Iris 356
The Lava Iris 356 is a dual-SIM smartphone having a 3.5-inch HVGA display (480 x 320). Inside, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor coupled with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM (expandable up to 32GB via microSD card). Android 4.2 Jelly Bean comes out of the box. The makers have added a 1,500mAh Li Ion battery. There's a 1.3-mega pixel camera on the rear back and VGA quality camera n the front. Spice Smart Flo Pace Mi-422 is a dual-SIM smartphone that runs on Android v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) platform. It has 1GHz processor, well complimented by a 512MB RAM. The display segment offers a 4 inch WVGA screen. Connectivity options include GPRS, EDGE. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB. In the camera category, there is a 3.2MP back and 1.3MP front camera. Other features include FM radio, 3.5mm audio jack, WhatsApp, A-GPS, and 32GB expandable memory and is powered by a Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery. The device is priced at Rs. 4,899.

After going through the specs of all the devices that is likely to come in the way of Karbonn A9 Star, it is pretty evident that all the devices come with the similar specs. Not only that but the handsets also come at the same price range. Thus, looking at the display size one can go for, Spice Smart Flo Ivory Mi-450 which also has the better battery capacity compared to others. While Lava Iris 405 comes with a Android Jelly Bean OS but is the most expensive among others. However, the two handsets among others might be a fair choice.
