Karbonn Enters 3G Android Phone Segment
But today it is not the foreign players who are taking on the market by storm but the home grown companies like Karbonn Mobiles, Micromax, Maxx Mobiles and many more to name a few.
Of these local brands Karbonn has been the most successful till now. Karbonn is one of India"s largest mobile companies. It kicked of operations as a joint venture between UTL group based in Bangalore and Delhi based Jaina Group.
The company has reported huge profits in the recent past and has been on the fore front in innovative concepts and ideas implemented on mobile phones. The company as reported by various sources is on a rapid expansion process and will soon bring about several key changes to its business strategies.
The company hopes to acquire close to $125 million in the next few months courtesy of Private Equity players. The main reason stated by the company for this money acquisition is for funding the company"s proposed expansion agenda which includes ramping up its existing production plants to produce more output and also provide an upgrade to its research facilities in Bangalore and New Delhi.
The company has announced that it is foraying into the booming Android Smartphone market in India and will be launching a highly affordable Android Froyo based Smartphone that will be tentatively priced around Rs 6999. This will make it one of the cheapest Android phones available in the country.
The entry of Karbonn into the Smartphone market will definitely be a wake up call for other home grown giants like Micromax and Spice and we can soon expect them also to launch similarly prices Smartphones in the market.
At present the Indian Mobile market is valued at over Rs 30000 Crore and Karbonn has a market share of about 5 % in this. With the newly funded expansion plan the company hopes to sell around 10 million units annually starting from this year onwards.
Karbonn has announced that the newly announced low cost Smartphone will soon be accompanied by 3 more handsets with similar price tag.
The company hopes to revolutionize the Indian Smartphone segment by making Smartphones available to the masses. The future looks bright for Karbonn in this sense.
