It was only Last week, when GizBot informed that Lava Mobiles is all set to launch a new quad core smartphone. Well, the report turns out to be true now, as the Indian handset maker Lava has launched a new smartphone, Iris 458q with quad core CPU for Rs. 8,999.

The phone is in fact the cheapest smartphone with quad-core processor available in the market so far. Despite all oddity what so ever regarding the device, it may make stand its ground because of the price factor.

Talking about specs, the device has following features:

Display:

Iris 458q sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with FWVGA resolution of 540x960 pixels

OS:

The Lava 458q runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the latest iteration of the operating system.

Processor and RAM:

It is powered by a powerful quad-core processor tuned to 1.2 GHz along with 512MB of RAM which enables smooth functioning of the phone.

Storage:

The smartphone packs in 4GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by another 32GB via microSD card.

Camera:

The phone sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front facing camera.

Connectivity:

The device supports Dual SIM (GSM + GSM) with Dual Standby and also provides users with 3G connectivity. Like all other smartphones in the market right now, the Iris 458q gives Wi-Fi connectivity as well as A-GPS.

Those looking for other more options may also opt for Xolo Q700 which offers similar features like quad-core processor and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and is available for Rs 9,999. Besides, Lava Iris 458q is likely to face competition against Karbonn S1 Titanium, Zen Ultrafone 701 HD, Micromax Canvas HD and Karbonn S5 Titanium all of which offer quad-core processors in this price segment.

Priced at Rs 9,999 Xolo Q700 and Lava Iris 458q have the same features but the difference lies in the RAM and the Battery strength. But getting a quad core process phone with 8MP rear camera in just Rs. 8,999 sounds really attractive.

The device has the potential to compete with various other devices but regarding its comparison with Lava IRIS 458q it may fail. With the 8MP camera Lava may have the upper hand and at the same time the price has a major role to play which is another advantage for Lava.

The handset comes with pretty decent Memory specifications, including 1 GB RAM and 4 GB ROM and micro SD card slot. As for the battery, Zen Ultrafone 701 HD comes with 2000 mAh capacity, with standby time of about 240 hours and talktime of up to 8 hours.

This may be another safe choice to go with with almost similar specs. Rs. 11,999 price may be a bit disadvantage to this device compared to Lava Iris 458q.

The phone runs on Android OS, v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), planned upgrade to v4.2 (Jelly Bean) platform and is powered by a quad core processor clocked to 1.2 GHz and backed by 1GB RAM. The device has 8 MP rear camera with 3264 x 2448 pixels, autofocus and LED flash and 2 MP fron facing camera.

Micromax canvas HD has the best of the specs and is priced to Rs. 13,690. Although this may be the safest option to go with may may opt Lava Iris 458q if the budget allows.

Powered by 1.2 GHz Quad Core Processor and backed by 1GB RAM is another device from Karbonn named Karbonn Titanium S5. Karbonn Titanium S5 comes with 5 inch qHD display, Dual SIM support and 8MP Camera with 3264 x 2448 pixels, autofocus and LED flash and 2 MP front facing camera. The device runs on Android OS, v4.1 (Jelly Bean) platform and supports dual sim. Regarding connectivity it enabled with 2G, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth.

This phone is priced at Rs. 11,990 and has the similar specs and the very less difference if it is comerad to Lava Iris 458q. Although this may outrun Lava Iris specs-wise there are chances that it will face a serious challenge against Lava Iris 458q.
