Lava Iris 504q: First Look
For the past few days NCR based Lava International was busy doing all sorts of crazy activities on Facebook. On June 15, the company finally revealed their first handset with built -in gesture motion control. The folks over at Lava organized a memorable event to celebrate the coming of Iris 504q. GizBot was there to attend the event. For a brief period of time, GizBot spent some time with the newly launched handset. The phone is priced at Rs.13499. It is expected to land in the market around 4th week of June. Let's have a look at the device.

Controlling your phone without touch is not new. Earlier also many tech vendors had attempted to so. There was a handset called Sony Ericsson Xperia Sola, the device was known for its floating touch. You do not need to touch the screen just hover your fingers in a 20mm distance range and the see the magic rolling. The phone didn't do well, but it surely invited other tech vendors to create a device incorporating gesture features.
Earlier this year the South Korean giant launched its monstrous Galaxy S4. Well, the handset has a feature called Air Gestures. The Air gesture sensor is given on the top of the display. It works fine, but many tech pundits called it as "cheap marketing gimmick". Now Lava has come with a phone which understands human gestures.
" The phone boasts of technologically advanced gesture motion control that reinvents the moble experience and set a new standard for smartphones in its category " , as per Lava International.
The main USP of the Lava Iris 504q is the built-in gesture motion feature. GizBot tried the device for few minutes. Unlike Samsung Galaxy S4 which uses a sensor built on the top of display, the Lava Iris 504q primarily uses its front facing camera to control the device. However, its functionality is limited at the moment.

The gesture motion feature can be used to change tracks (music player/video player), clicking photos, viewing images via gallery and lastly tuning FM channels. Many a times, it was difficult to view images by using gesture motion technology. Yes, it worked perfectly fine. The technique is simple: move your hands over the camera in slow motion.
Apart from gesture motion feature, the device rear back cover was a pleasant surprise. The device measures 8.4mm in terms of thickness. In appearance, the edge-to-edge screen reminded of Nexus 4.The Iris 504q packs a 5-inch OGS display with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. But the handset should be tested as per GizBot standards.

The display is not that sharp as it should be. Same can be said for an 8-mega pixel rear facing camera. There is a 2-mega pixel front facing camera. The quality is above average. Lava says the battery inside the device actually enhances over all experience due to power boosters.
The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean comes out of the box. The user interface (UI) is fluid in nature. There are many apps designed by Lava. The interface is way far from stock Android experience. The phone comes packed with 1.2GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory which can be expanded through microSD cards.

The makers added 2000mAh Li Ion polymer battery. Lava says the battery inside the device actually enhances over all experience due to power boosters. Lastly, the handset is Dual SIM capable, which makes even more useful.
At the end, the gesture motion feature adds as a plus point. Is it enough to woo a user? There are problems with gesture motion technique. It will take some time to understand. There are hits and misses with the phones. The phone should be price under Rs.12, 000. Stay tuned to GizBot.
