Handsets like the iPhone 5S and its small display are now thought to be obsolete. And then there are the phablets, the supersized jumbo phones with 5.5 to 6-inch screens. Last year could certainly be titled the year of the Phablet, and this trend will continue through at least the first half of 2014.

And now Lava International jumped feet into the 6-inch large screen handset market with its ‘Magnum X604'. This 6-inch handset is powered by a quad-core processor and runs the Android 4.4 Kitkat out-of-the-box.

Priced at Rs. 11, 999, the Lava Magnum X604 comes in white and black colors and will be available across national retail chain stores and multi-brand outlets across India.

Lava's latest offering, the Magnum X604, has hit the country. While Samsung and Nokia have been enjoying the leadership in the phablet market, Lava is a new kid in this segment.

Spec-wise, the Magnum X604 has a 6.0-inch 720P HD display In addition to the screen, the other standout feature is the Z Ultra's thickness: it measures 8.9mm thick. It is a bit weighty, however, at 207grams. Under the hood is a 1,2GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of on-board storage, which later can be further expanded via a microSD card slot.

In the imaging department, the phone comes with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with auto focus and BSI sensor for low lighting imaging. There is a 2-megaoixel front-facing shooter for attending video-calls. The phone's rear camera is capable of recording videos in 1080p. It also has a 2800mAh battery which can give up to 8 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time.

Connectivity options on the handset are follows: 3G, dual-SIM, Wi-Fi, Android 4.4 kitkat, Bluetooth, GPS and EDGE.

On the imaging front, the phablet sports a 13-megapixel f/2.2 rear-facing camera with ability to record videos in 1080p video and a 5-megapixel front facing camera. The makers have added a 2,600mAh battery fitted inside. Other connectivity options come with Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi and GPS connectivity options. The company has not mentioned any details of the chipset but we presume that it is the one from Mediatek. The device runs on older 4.2.2 Jelly Bean flavor of Android, and also gets a layer of Play Life UI. On the camera front, one can expect a 13-megapixel rear camera (auto-focus and LED flash) with f/2.2 aperture and 28mm wide angle lens, and a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper good enough to take selfies and making video calls. The Panasonic P81 houses 8GB native storage, which is further expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot. Other connectivity options include 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth 3.0 A2DP. Just like most of the mid-range smartphones entering the Indian market, it comes with dual SIM functionality. It comes powered by a 2500mAh battery. Asking price - Rs. 17,990
