Lenovo K900 Launched at Rs 32,999: 5 High End Rivals At Similar Price

Lenovo, the Chinese PC maker who has been the leader all through, recently forayed in the mobile business to test its luck. Looks like, the manufacturer is having some high hopes, when it comes to the Indian market as only yesterday, Lenovo launched, not one, not two but six smartphones in the country.

 

Namely, K900, P780, S920, S820, A706 and A390, these smartphones range between Rs 8,689 to Rs 32,999 and all have a common feature of internal storage capacity of 4 GB which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD.

Out of all, K900 has been capturing a lot of spotlight, all credit goes to its 2GHz processor, 6.9mm thickness and out-of-the-box looks.

Relatively, Lenovo K900 has now become one of the many competitors in the smartphone arena of India priced at Rs. 32,999. Talking about the specs, the K900 has:

Display

The K900 comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with HD display and 16M colors with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. The screen offers a pixel density of 401 ppi. It has a Gorilla Glass 2 to protect the screen from scratches.

Camera

On the camera front, the k900 has a 13 megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor BSI sensor. The camera also has autofocus and LED flash. The front facing camera consist of 2 megapixel for video calling.

Processor, OS and RAM

Lenovo K900 runs on Android OS, v4.2 (Jelly Bean) powered by a dual-core 2 GHz processor and an Intel Atom Z2580 chipset along with Intel Hyper-Threading technology. The powerful K900 is also supported by 2GB RAM.

Connectivity

Connectivity options in K900 are 2G, 3G, GPRS, EDGE, WLAN, WiFi, Bluetooth and microUSB v2.0.

Storage and battery

The K900 comes with a comes with a stunning 16GB internal storage capacity which can be expanded to 32 GB via microSD. The 5.5 inch phablet is powered by non-removable Li-Ion 2500 mAh battery.

Price and availability

Priced at Rs 32,999, the Lenovo K900 smartphone will be available at all Lenovo retail stores across India from July 2013.

The Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 has been priced aggressively at Rs. 32,999, competing against the other high end devices such as HTC Butterfly, the Samsung Galaxy Note II, HTC One S, Nokia Lumia 920 and LG Optimus G E975. The K900 phablet is the latest of them all making the competition even more tougher. Not to mention the other 5 devices which will also impact the rivalry between mid to low range devices in the Indian market.

Sony Xperia Z

The waterproof and dust resistant Sony Xperia Z has been released in India in March at a price of Rs. 38,990 and it is available on Flipkart at Rs. 37,990. Xperia Z comes with a 5 inch full HD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and with mobile Bravia Engine 2, quad core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, 13MP rear camera, 2.2MP front camera for video calling, 16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC.

To compare the device with Lenovo K900, Xperia Z has a quad core processor while the K900 has a dual core. The camera of Xperia Z is obviously better than the K900 and Xperia also supports 4G while the K900 doesn't. Sony Xperia Z also has a higher pixel density of 441ppi.

Officially released in 2012 fall, Galaxy Note 2 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, features a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, 1.6GHz quad core processor, 2GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting 32GB, 8MP rear camera, 1.9MP front camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth with A2DP and a massive 3,100 mAh Li-ion battery. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 recently, received the Android 4.1.2 OTA update, which brought features including customizable Notification Panel, Multi Window disabling option, new Notification toggles amongst others. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has been priced to Rs. 34,999.

To compare Galaxy Note 2 with K900, former has a better storage capacity of 64GB and high speed data transfer than the K900. However K900 has a better camera with 13MP and a higher screen resolution and pixel density.

 

LG Optimus G

LG Optimus G sports a 4.7-inch True HD IPS + display with a resolution of 1280 X 768 pixels, 1.5Ghz Quad Core Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 13-mega pixel rear camera with Autofocus and LED Flash supported, front facing camera (1.3-mega pixels), 3G, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 , A-GPS and 2,100mAh battery. Above all, Optimus G comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Besides, there are a couple of new features in the handset including QSlide, which allows users to use two different screens simultaneously on the handset. With QSlide users can also control the opacity of these windows. Also, the camera interface as some nifty software enhancements including Cheese Shutter, which lets users to capture snaps by simply saying cheese, smile or LG. Further, Time Catch Shot allows capturing five photos and choose the best one and more.

To compare Optimus G has a quad core processor while the K900 has a dual core. The Optimus G has 4G support which the K90 doesn't have. LG Optimus G doesn't come with the Gorilla glass like the K900 and has lesser screen size with lesser resolution and pixel density. Priced at Rs. 31,699 on Naaptol LG Optimes G fails in terms of specs but the price has a pretty important role to play here.

 

Nokia Lumia 920

Nokia Lumia 920 which was launched at the price of Rs. 36,000 is now available at Rs. 31,999 at a couple of online retailers. To summarize on the specs of Nokia Lumia 920, it has 4.5-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 along with Nokia ClearBlack technology. The device runs on Windows 8 Os and is powered by dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and backed by 1GB of RAM. Also, the device had 8.7 megapixel camera on the rear with PureView technology and capable of Full HD video capture, and it has 1.3 megapixel front facing snapper that is capable of 720p video recording. The device has 32GB of internal storage without any option of expanding though, and Nokia Lumia 920 is powered by a 2,000 mAh battery to the smartphone.

To contrast Lumia 920 with K900, firstly they run on different OS. Lumia 920 has a smaller screen with the lower resolution and pixel density than the K900. Camerawise the K900 has a 13MP while the Lumia 920 has a 13.7 MP camera. Although this Lumia 920 sounds a bit cheaper, it has the features that can make it eligible to compete with K900.

The Galaxy S3 runs on Android 4.0 Ice cream sandwich operating system, and now has been upgraded to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system. It is powered by the Exynos 4412 Quad-Core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 and Mali 400 graphics processor unit, supported by a 1 GB RAM. The phone comes in two storage capacity of 32 GB and sports a primary camera of 8 megapixel and a secondary camera of 1.9 megapixel.

Saholic has listed the device at Rs. 34,900. To compare the device with the K900, Samsung Galaxy S3 with a 32 GB has a lesser RAM and a lesser MP camera and has a lower resolution and lower pixel density.
