LG Nexus 4 iFixit Teardown: Google Smartphone Scores Same as Apple iPhone 5

Google came out with multiple Nexus devices including Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and 32GB Nexus 7 on October 29, 2012. Following the launch, LG Nexus 4 handset has now been released in various markets including US, UK and more from November 13 onwards.

In the meantime, those tech enthusiasts who were interested to take a look at what is inside the Nexus 4 handset can do it now, as iFixit, a renowned repair company has performed their teardown job with the Nexus 4 smartphone.

For those who are not aware, iFixit usually tears down devices to estimate how well they can stack up against the rivals and other market dominators.

After the teardown and analysis of all the components including the chips on the board, non-removable battery and others, the device surgeons at iFixit have rated Nexus 4 will a repairability score of 7 out of 10. They claim that Nexus 4 is easy to rip apart, access the components and repair as there are minimal screws. Once the back and inner frames are removed, the pressure contacts make it easy to replace the components inside the phone.

The main downside is with the non-removable battery that is fused with the frame and display glass, thereby making it expensive to replace.

Apple iPhone 5 also has a repairability score of 7 out 10 and hence, Nexus goes head-on-head with the Apple biggie as far as iFixit teardown is concerned.

Talking about the specifications, the handset boasts a 4.7-inch IPS display that has a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels with Zerogap technology, quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB/16GB internal storage, 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera for video calling, NFC, wireless charging, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 2,100 mAh Li-Po battery with 15.3 hours of talk time and standby of 390 hours.

Running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, Nexus 4 comes with new features including Photo Sphere camera, Gesture Typing, Miracast, DayDream, improved notifications, quick settings, support to multiple user accounts, improved Google Now and more.

When it comes to the Indian market, though Nexus 4 is not officially released, the handset is available for pre-order on eBay.in for a price of Rs 23,490 and Rs 27,490 for 8GB and 16GB variants respectively. Also, Saholic has listed the handset without price tag and claims that it will be hitting the retail shelves on November 30, 2012.
