While the smartphone market is already preoccupied with a plethora of launches, the handset vendors do not seem to rest. The manufacturers including local and international are constantly pushing in their products into the market going by the demands of the consumers.
Until now, both the entry-level and mid-range markets were completely haunted by Android operating system, but, Nokia has made an attempt to popularize the Windows Phone 8 platform by releasing Lumia 620, the cheapest WP8 smartphone launched ever. After much delays, Lumia 620 has been launched in India today at Rs 14,999.
However, the manufacturer has several stones to obstruct in the path in terms of popular Android smartphone offerings, the domestic vendors being a part of them. One of the popular India based vendors - Karbonn is also constantly pushing a variety of handsets into the market. The latest one from the company seems to be Retina A27, which has been spotted on Saholic at Rs 9,090.
Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and with such a low price tag, it seems like the dual SIM Karbonn smartphone could be a stiff competitor to the Windows Phone 8 based Lumia 620, as both the handsets have made their entry into the market at the same time.
Hence, Gizbot has come up with an elaborate spec comparison of Nokia Lumia 620 and Karbonn Retina A27. Those confused between the two latest Windows Phone 8 and Android Jelly Bean smartphones, as to which one to choose can look at the comparison below.
Form Factor: Lumia 620 boasts a dimension of 115.4 x 61.1 x 11 mm and weighs in at 127 grams while the thinner Retina A27 carries a dimension of 133.6 x 66 x 9.1 mm and weighs around 126.5 grams.
On the display front, Lumia 620 packs a 3.8 inch multi-touch WVGA ClearBlack capacitive touchscreen display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution and 246 ppi pixel density.
At the same time, Retina A27 houses a larger 4.3 inch qHD IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and 256 ppi pixel density.
While the IPS display will offer better viewing angles, the ClearBlack technology in Lumia 620 reduces reflections and improves sunlight legibility.
Processor: When it comes to processor, Lumia 620 and Retina A27 come equipped with a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, however, Retina A27 has a faster 1.2GHz processor as compared to the 1GHz chip in the opponent.
Operating System: Coming to the most contradictory segment of the comparison, Lumia 620 is based on Windows Phone 8 while Retina A27 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
Speaking of software features, Windows Phone 8 has improved features like dynamic Live Tile Information, social network integration in the People hub, Skydrive and Office 365 documents synchronization, Facebook-events integrated calendar, visual voicemail, threaded email conversations support and more.
On the other hand, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has new features including Project Butter, expandable and contractible notifications, resizable app widgets, live wallpaper preview, high resolution contact photos, improved Android Beam and many more.
Camera: Lumia 620 has a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash along with a VGA front camera for video calling.
On the other hand, Retina A27 has an 8MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash and a 2MP front camera for video chatting.
Storage: In this segment, Lumia 620 has 8GB internal storage, 512MB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 64GB additional storage. In comparison, Retina A27 has 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM and a micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable memory.
Connectivity: When it comes to data connectivity, Lumia 620 and Retina A27 come with decent connectivity features including dual band Wi-Fi, average 3G download speeds, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and micro USB 2.0. However, Lumia 620 scores more with NFC connectivity support.
Battery: Lumia 620 comes with a 1,300 mAh battery offering 330 hours backup, whereas, Retina A27 has a 1,800 mAh battery delivering 168 hours of backup.
Price: While Lumia 620 has been released at Rs 14,999, Karbonn has launched its Retina A27 online at Rs 9,090.
Both Nokia Lumia 620 and Karbonn Retina A27 Plus are budget smartphones based on rival operating systems - Windows Phone 8 and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Hence, these handsets will have unique software features that are respective to their OS platforms.
Being a device of Lumia lineup, Lumia 620 comes preloaded with exclusive applications including Nokia Drive, CityLens, Nokia Maps, MixRadio and more. At the same time, Retina A27 is preloaded with applications including Flipboard, Facebook, Twitter and more.
If the concern is on a larger display, better camera and lower price tag, Larbonn A27 should be a right choice.
However, if the concern is on increased internal storage and expandable storage options, better battery backup and advanced connectivity features such as NFC, Lumia 620 might be a better option.
