Meizu M1 Note First Impression: Promising Camera and An Urbane Built
The Meizu M1 Note was unveiled at a showcasing event in Bangalore on the 5th of April 2015. Meizu is a Chinese smartphone brand and plans to launch their devices starting next month in the Indian subcontinent.
GizBot got the exclusive opportunity to hands-on the device first hand way before it even goes for sale in the Indian market.
- camera is outstanding
- Flyme UI
- picture quality
- elegant look
- plastic body
- cheap to hold and feel
- visibility issues in low brightness
So, let's move on and find out how this new Chinese mobile maker will pose a big threat to Xiaomi and Huawei devices already present in the market.
Form Factor, Design, Display and Operating System
The Meizu M1 Note features a 5.5" IGZO capacitive touchscreen having a display of 1080x1920 pIxels at 403ppi. The display is decent even though the brightness levels can be an issue, as it lacks a clear visual in low brightness.
The device runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat with Flyme 4 UI slapped on top of it. Flyme is a UI coming straight from Meizu's house and the Meizu M1 Note will use the 4th version of the graphical interface. A lot of redesigning went under the hood for a proper and harmonised experience for the users.
The device looks neat on the first impression. The power button and the 3.5mm jack sit on the top of the phone. The right side has a Micro Sim tray while the left has a neatly sculptured volume rocker. The USB charging port and the speaker sit at the bottom.
Processor, RAM and Connectivity
It feels pretty good and fluidic during transitions. The SoC on the device is a Mediatek MT6752 Octacore CPU clocked at 1.7GHz and it uses a Mali T760 for graphics.
The phone responds well to touches and getsures made by the user. The CPU has a 2GB ROM which ensures smooth operation of the device.
The phone has a unibody design, which means that the battery is sealed off inside the device. The entire phone's body is made up of plastic which gives it a very cheap and inexpensive look.
The device is 4G enabled and supports LTE. We'll give you a hands on in detail when we have the device at our studio.
Camera and Video
In terms of camera, the Meizu M1 Note did impress us. Its 13MP rear camera with dual led flashlight is one of the USPs of the phone. The camera operates flawlessly and has a lot of on screen functions along with it like HDR, Filters, Level Guage, etc.
The 5MP front cam is quite impressive and captures nice bright images We used the camera for quite sometime and it packed a serious punch.
Focussing in the macro mode was superb and was crystal clear without any noise. The snaps we captured using the front camera were also very clear and vivid
Battery and Early Verdict
Powering the device is a 3140mAh battery which is pretty good for a phone with a 5.5" screen. The Meizu M1 Note seems to be the ultimate competitor to the Xiaomi Redmi note. Meizu is set to challenge the staggering figures achieved by Xiaomi in the country.
The price of the device will be one of the cardinal factors which will add to its sales volume in the country. We expect that the price will range within Rs. 15,000.
