Micromax's much awaited affordable octa-core powered handset, the Canvas Knight Cameo A290, has been launched online at Rs. 11,999. The device looks similar to the original Canvas Knight A350, but doesn't carry the beefy specs sheet.

 

Even though the company has not officially release the device thus far, you can still buy it unofficially through various e-commerce websites. The device is already listed on Micromax's official website.

The Canvas Knight Cameo A290 is the latest mid-end phone from the house of Micromax. The new device is a low cost variant of the Canvas Knight A350.

Specs-wise, the Canvas Knight Cameo A290 is powered by a 1.4Ghz true octa-core MediaTek processor, paired with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of native storage and a microSD card slot for memory expansion. With a 4.7-inch HD display and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, the handset doesn't look particularly compromised.

The new handset is running on the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat out-of-the box. Other highlighted connectivity and features include: 3G, Wi-Fi, dual-SIM, FM Radio, Bluetooth and GPS.

The Canvas Knight A350 featured a 5-inch FHD display, a true octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16-megapixel rear-facing camera. The phone went on sale in March this year at Rs. 19,999. The Canvas Knight A350 was met with harsh criticism from the mainstream media for being overtly priced.

Going by the features and specifications , the Canvas Knight Cameo A290 appears to be a well thought device. While the Knight Cameo A290's camera is only 8MP, but one should not forget that Micromax's new octa-core powered device will cost Rs.11,999 or even less.

Just like most of the mid-range smartphones entering the Indian market, it comes with dual SIM functionality. It comes powered by a 2500mAh battery.
