Just around 3 years after its entry into the mobile handset manufacturing segment in India, Micromax has been able to achieve huge strides in the business. They now occupy a spot among the top 5 mobile manufacturers in India. The company is mainly focussed on the needs of mass Indian consumers who want more form their phones for less money. The company believes that the common man is the biggest buyer in the Indian market and therefore concentrates heavily in making their phones affordable to the masses.
Today we compare 2 offerings from Micromax. The models are Micromax Q50 and the recently launched Micromax Q80. One is a normal multimedia phone while the other offers Smartphone like features. Let us take a closer look.
Micromax Q50 is a normal multimedia phone that has a physical keypad and a dual SIM support. Micromax Q80 on the other hand has Smartphone like features and is also Dual Sim capable. Q50 has a funky design with the keys placed spaciously in the key panel. The display is quite large for good visual experiences and the phone has a good user interface also.
Q80 however has a Macho look and feel. The phone also has a good user interface and has a neatly ordered keypad layout.
Both the phones have the latest in multimedia support. The phones have a music player capable of playback of formats such as MP3, AAC, WAV and many more. Both the phone come equipped with Video players that support a number of formats. But neither of the phone support high definition playback.
On the camera department, Micromax Q50 has a 2 Mega Pixel camera with digital zoom. The image quality is an issue though. But Micromax Q80 boasts of a powerful 3 Mega Pixel rear camera along with a VGA front camera. Both the phones support video recording. The phones have poor internal memory but both support external memory via a Micro SD expansion slot. They can be extended upto 8GB.
Micromax Q80 overwhelms the Q50 in the connectivity and communications front. Micromax Q50 just offers Bluetooth and USB PC Sync as connectivity options. It has support only for 2G and 2.5G network technologies like GPRS. Q80 on the other hand has support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and high speed 3G internet surfing and downloading.
Micromax Q50 is priced at around Rs 2,800 whereas the Q80 comes at a price of Rs 4,800. At this price quotient the Micromax Q80 is the better choice as it offers a lot more features for the extra cash.
