Microsoft Lumia 540 vs Lumia 640: Which Phone Should You Buy?
Microsoft has made it tough for prospective mid-range Lumia buyers by announcing one more compelling device, the Lumia 540 after Lumia 640.

The Lumia 540 belongs to the lower mid-range and it hits the sweet spot with 5-inch, 720p display, 8 MP rear camera and 5 MP FFC. Price wise too it is expected to be pretty close to Lumia 640.
Now, we are going to compare the Lumia 540 along with the Lumia 640 to see how these two smarphones fare against each other in terms of specs, features and pricing.
Microsoft Lumia 540 And Microsoft Lumia 640 In Pictures
Design:
The build quality of both these Lumia is kind of familiar to the previous Lumia smartphones Microsoft had launched earlier. Lumia 640 measures 141.3mm x 72.2mm x 8.8mm and weighs 145g, on the other hand Lumia 540 (pictured above) measures 140.2mm x 72.4mm x 8.8mm and weighs 146g.
Both Lumia 540 and 640 have a glossy back and have a shinny look. Eveen though Microsoft has launched a couple of smartphones, both Lumia smartphones felt quite heavy and thick when we held the device for the first time.

The Lumia 540 comes in black, cyan, orange, and white color options whereas Lumia 640 is available in the same options.
Display:
Both phones have 5-inch IPS LCD displays. However, the resolution of the Lumia 640 is 1280 x 720 resulting in 294 ppi while the Lumia 540 has a resolution of 960 x 540 resulting in 220 ppi, which is low compared to Lumia 640's resolution but, we should not forget the about the price too.
Camera:
The Lumia 640 has an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video capture, as well as a 1-megapixel front-facing camera. The Lumia 540 has a 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 480p video capture, and it also has a 5-megapixel front-facing unit.
Lumia 540's rear camera is similar to what we have on Lumia 640. But it can't capture videos beyond 480p resolution. It also lacks Glance screen and advanced imaging features.

Processor:
The Microsoft Lumia 640 sports a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics. Whereas the Lumia 540 houses a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor and Adreno 302 GPU under the hood.

Ram And Storage:
Microsoft has always been generous in terms of storage. Both Lumia handsets have 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage that's expandable to 128B via microSD, so there's nothing to split them here.
Operating System:
As we all know that Windows 10 is on its way, Microsoft has promised that every Lumia smartphone will be upgraded to Windows 10 as soon as it has been rolled out. Both phones run on Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1 which will be upgradable to Windows 10.

Battery:
No doubts about the battery as all Lumia have quite a repectable battery fame in the market. The Lumia 640 has a removable 3000 mAh battery and the Lumia 540 has a removable 2200 mAh battery, which pretty good enough to run more than a day on 3G.
Connectivity:
These are both 3G handsets with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA and WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and microUSB 2.0. We've already mentioned that the Lumia 640 also comes in a version with 4G LTE.
Price:
The price of the Lumia 640 3G model has been announced as Rs. 9999 where as the Lumia 540 which just got release is available for Rs 10,199.

If you want to buy a Lumia that would last long and have better features then we would suggest you to go for Lumia 640 as it has a 3000 mAh battery but, if not battery, the Lumia 540 would be a bettr option.
It provides dual sim connectivity as well a better display when compared to Lumia 640 which is a point to note at this price range.
