2020 Apple iPhone Will Be Equipped With Samsung And LG OLED Panels: Report
Samsung Display is supplying screen for all the iPhone lineup since a long time, now it has been reported that the company will also be the supplier for upcoming 2020 Apple iPhone series. As per the report, Samsung will provide on-cell touch OLED panel to Apple which is also called aY-OCTA technology. Samsung will also use this display in their flagship phones. Meanwhile, LG display will provide film touch OLED panels to Apple.
As per ETNews, Korean news website, Samsung Display will supply their OLED panels for 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch iPhones. The reports also suggest that these will be on-cell touch OLED panel which is also said to be flexible. The report indicates that the company will not receive any supply from BOE, the Chinese panel manufacturer.
"While there is a high chance that BOE, which had drawn many interests, will suffer a sad defeat, South Korean display manufacturers will continue to enjoy being the sole OLED suppliers of Apple. This news confirms once again that South Korea is far ahead of China when it comes to mobile display," reads the ETNews report.
The upcoming 2020 Apple iPhone is expected to arrive in 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display variant, and the company is said to launch the flagship line-up in the fall of 2020.
"Although Apple had been sticking with film touch method since its first iPhone, Samsung Display has succeeded in drawing a change from Apple by actively promoting Y-OCTA technology to Apple." ETNews quoted a representative for the industry. "It is heard that Samsung Display also suggested shocking terms in order to obtain an order from Apple."
Apple has also joined hands with LG Displays to fulfil the production demand for 6.1-inch film touch OLED panel. Recently it was also reported that Apple was testing BOE's flexible OLED panel to cut don't the production cost of the iPhones. However, it seems that the standards of the display are not up to Apple's standard.
