99% of Xiaomi Smartphones Sold In India Are Made In The Country
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is selling made in devices in the country. In fact, the company makes three devices per second, according to the top executive. "About 99 percent of the phones sold in India are made in the country. We make three phones per second," Muralikrishnan B, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Xiaomi India, was quoted by IANS.
According to the report, the company is exporting products to other countries too, but on a very small scale. But it will scale up the exports, with more governments incentive. He also intimated that there were many issues related to the export of its 'Make in India' products. This includes certification and low drawback rates.
"The BIS certification is not accepted in many parts of the world. If the government can make the BIS certification acceptable in neighboring countries, it would help us scale up," Muralikrishnan was quoted by the news agency.
It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi is looking for more incentives from the government. He also suggested that India should learn from Vietnam when it comes to incentivizing domestic manufacturing. For the unaware, Foxconn is manufacturing Xiaomi's product and all the operators at the facility are women. Meanwhile, Times of India reported that the company is also planning to manufacture its wearables, air purifiers, water purifiers, and security cameras in India.
To recall, the company has launched Mi Air Purifier 3 in India. The Mi Air Purifier 3 is the successor of the Mi Air Purifier 2S which was launched last year. Besides, it comes with triple-layer filtration which includes a primary filter, a true HEPA filter, an activated carbon filter. Furthermore, it is capable of delivering 6333 liters of purified air every minute with a coverage area of up to 484ft2.
