Android 17 Based HyperOS 4.0 Will Rollout to These Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO Devices: What to Expect
Xiaomi is already laying the groundwork for its next major software leap, and fresh leaks suggest that Android 17-based HyperOS 4.0 could be one of the company's most significant updates yet. Although Xiaomi has temporarily paused HyperOS updates until March due to the Chinese New Year holiday, this slowdown is purely seasonal and not an indication of delayed development.
HyperOS 4.0 Development Progress
Behind the scenes, development appears to be moving full steam ahead, with multiple reports now pointing toward HyperOS 4.0 being well into internal testing. The pause in updates is largely procedural, allowing Xiaomi's teams to resume broader software rollouts once holiday schedules conclude.

Interestingly, HyperOS 4.0 surfaced unintentionally through a global bug report, effectively confirming its existence. Early information suggests that Xiaomi is working on a more self-developed system architecture while still retaining core native Android services. This approach could allow Xiaomi to further optimise performance, battery efficiency, and cross-device integration without breaking compatibility with Google's ecosystem.
Android 17 at the Core of HyperOS 4.0
HyperOS 4.0 is expected to be built on Android 17, Google's next-generation mobile operating system, which is tipped to enter stable release around June or July 2026. As seen in previous years, Xiaomi is likely to quickly adapt Android 17 into its custom skin, with early beta builds rolling out shortly after Google makes the OS official. Flagship smartphones and premium tablets are expected to be first in line, followed by mid-range and budget devices in phases.
Based on current leaks and Xiaomi's software update policy, a surprisingly wide range of devices across Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO are expected to receive the Android 17 update.

Rollout Timeline: What to Expect
If Xiaomi follows its usual update cadence, early Android 17 beta builds should debut around Google I/O 2026. The Xiaomi 17 series is expected to lead the charge, with other flagship devices following shortly after. Mid-range and budget phones will likely receive the update later, with the broader rollout stretching into late 2026 and possibly early 2027, depending on region-specific testing and regulatory approvals.
That said, not every relatively new device is guaranteed to make the jump. Reports suggest that some models, such as the Redmi Note 14 5G and POCO M7 Pro 5G, may miss out despite being fairly recent. This aligns with Xiaomi's existing update policy, which prioritises tier and positioning over launch year alone.
At this stage, HyperOS 4.0 and its Android 17 device list remain unconfirmed, based largely on leaks and Xiaomi's historical software support patterns. Still, if these reports hold true, Xiaomi is preparing one of its broadest Android upgrades yet. As always, it's best to treat early information with caution and wait for official announcements, but all signs point to HyperOS 4.0 being a major milestone for Xiaomi's ecosystem.
