Apple iPhone 16e Reportedly Assembled in India for Local Stores and Global Exports
Apple recently launched the iPhone 16e, marking it as the latest entry-level model in their lineup. This phone succeeds the iPhone SE (2022). Reports indicate that its assembly has started in India ahead of its sale on February 28. The production is aimed at both local markets and exports, aligning with Apple's strategy to diversify manufacturing beyond China.
The Economic Times quoted Apple stating, "The entire iPhone 16 lineup, including iPhone 16e, is being assembled in India for Indian consumers and for export to select countries." This move signifies a significant step in Apple's manufacturing strategy.

Focus on Indian Manufacturing
Apple's decision to assemble the iPhone 16 Pro models in India marks a historical milestone. Previously, these high-end models were exclusively assembled in China with partners like Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron. Initially, the iPhone 16 Pro units bore an "assembled in China" label but later included "assembled in India" versions.
Several other iPhone models are already being assembled in India. These include the iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and the entire iPhone 16 series. This shift aligns with Apple's broader strategy to reduce reliance on Chinese manufacturing facilities.
Addressing Supply Chain Challenges
The focus on Indian manufacturing comes amid challenges faced by Apple due to over-dependence on Chinese facilities. The launch of the iPhone 14 Pro was marred by shortages caused by Covid-19 restrictions at Foxconn's Zhengzhou plant. Similarly, high demand and supply-chain issues affected the availability of the iPhone 15 Pro models.
By expanding its production capabilities outside China, Apple aims to mitigate such shortages for new and flagship models. This proactive approach is expected to stabilise supply chains and meet consumer demand more effectively.
The Cupertino-based company continues to adapt its strategies to ensure a steady supply of its products worldwide. By diversifying manufacturing locations, Apple seeks to enhance resilience against potential disruptions.
