Apple files a patent for a smartphone with flexible display
Reports of Apple working on the development of a smartphone with foldable display have been confirmed by the public patent filed by the technology brand for the same.
Apple iPhone X has been one of the most ambitious projects for the smartphone manufacturer so far. The device will soon hit the market and fans simply can't get enough of the smartphone's futuristic and elegant design. However, the latest leak from Cupertino has confirmed that Apple is working on a more sophisticated piece of tech that will steal iPhone X's thunder.
Samsung grabbed a lot of attention after the reports of its foldable device was confirmed. The attention Samsung received, after the confirmation of the report, got Apple all worked up and soon enough a South Korean media house reported Apple and LG's joint venture for a device with a flexible OLED display.
If that wasn't enough Apple also publicly filed a patent which was humbly headlined as 'Electronic Devices with Displays'. The description for the device includes details about the flexible OLED display it will supposedly boast. The display can also be folded while there are no visible hinges or a supporting module for it.
The patent further describes that the display on the device will need to be OLED and that it needs to be encased within a strong structure. Apple had recently joined hands with LG to fulfill its requirements of OLED displays. Earlier, it was Samsung that developed displays for Apple.
However, experts believe that the technology will take at least three years to develop and finally hit shore which will clearly give Samsung a head start over its most competing rival. Samsung has already showcased a prototype device with a flexible display at CES 2017 and is certainly ahead of the curve.
