Apple iPhone battery replacement could take as long as two weeks of time
The massive price cut on battery replacement cost of old iPhones has led to this situation.
As most of you are already aware, Apple is going through a tough phase. The company apologized last month for slowing down older iPhones with iOS updates without letting the users know. While the Cupertino giant explained the reason behind its action, customers were not too happy about it. To save its reputation, Apple came up with a new battery replacement program, under which the battery replacement cost for the iPhone 6 and newer models was brought down from $79 to $29.
In other words, it slashed down the battery replacement cost by 63 percent. Even in India, iPhone battery replacement cost is now just Rs. 2,000 all-inclusive. This massive price cut has resulted in huge demand for battery replacements in Apple Stores all around the world and the employees are not being able to keep up with the suddenly increased demand.
To check how bad is the situation, A CNBC reporter recently visited an Apple Store in New York to get his iPhone 6's battery replaced. Turns out, if you want to a get a new battery for your iPhone, you would have to wait for a while. The Genius Bar (a tech support station located inside all but one of Apple's retail stores) employee told the reporter that it would take two weeks before the store would have stock of fresh cells for that particular model.
On the flip side, the employee told that the iPhone 6's battery transplant operation would only take about two hours. So if you are lucky enough, the battery replacement on your iPhone could be completed in much less time.
Another CNBC reporter wanted to replace the batteries of her iPhone 6 models and she made a visit to Best Buy. To her disappointment, the store turned her away stating there was no stock available. This means though you make an appointment at an Apple Store or any of Apple's authorized retail partner, it doesn't mean you will get your iPhone's battery replaced right away.
It is recommend that you should call the store in question to find out whether or not they have the inventory of the cell meant for your particular iPhone model. However, even if it takes as long as two weeks to replace the battery on your iPhone, it will be better than investing a fortune to buy a new model.
