Apple has reportedly been working on the iPhone SE 2 for a long time now, and a new rumor claims the long-awaited handset will launch as early as next month. The news, which comes from some unnamed case makers, aligns with previous reports that claimed the iPhone SE 2 would arrive in May. However, the next generation iPhone SE could get a different moniker, the source noted.

Apple iPhone SE 2 to be powered by A10 Fusion chipset

According to fresh information, the iPhone SE 2 will come equipped with Apple's A10 Fusion chipset, which is also present in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This will be an upgrade from the original iPhone SE, which is powered by the A9 chipset. The report further reveals the iPhone SE 2 will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack as the Cupertino-giant wants to make it modern.

The iPhone SE 2 is expected to keep the same form factor as its predecessor, with no changes in dimension or design. Instead of the 3D Face ID feature, the phone will come with the Touch ID sensor embedded into the display. There are some rumors claiming the device will have a glass back with support for wireless charging, but chances are unlikely.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi believes while Apple will launch the iPhone SE 2 as a cheaper option for its customers. He further claims, in order to keep the price down, the company will not include high-end features like 3D facial recognition technology and wireless charging support in the iPhone SE 2.

According to Kuo, new iPhone SE model is expected to be the part of Apple's roadmap this year with cheaper components but a slightly upgraded processor. On the software front, the device is likely to run on iOS 12.

If these details turn out to be authentic, then the 2018 lineup of iPhones will be the broadest one so far in ten years as there will be three models similar to the iPhone X and an affordable iPhone SE successor as well.
