The iPhone X was one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2017, if not the most. Much to Apple's dismay, the 10th anniversary model of iPhones failed to perform that well in terms of sales.

Apple may slash the iPhone X price soon: Analyst

In fact, the iPhone X was outsold by the iPhone 8 in the US, as per a recent report. Now that we have 2018, analyst forecasts are still mixed on the sales performance of the iPhone X. We says so as two contradictory notes have surfaced online. To start with, CLSA analyst Nicolas Baratte believes the latest Apple flagship not likely to experience major growth this year.

According to him, majority of the potential customers have already purchased the handset in late 2017.

"We maintain that 2017 fourth-quarter iPhone X volumes were at 30 to 35 million and we are very skeptical that volumes will increase in the first quarter of 2018. This does not reconcile with the expectation of pent-up demand or push-out to the first quarter of 2018 in our opinion: consumers who wanted to get an iPhone X in December 2017 already have it," the analyst was quoted saying in a report by CNBC.

On the surface, the analyst's prediction may not make much sense as many customers who wanted to buy the iPhone X last year couldn't due to the shortage of supply. The iPhone X supply was actually limited since the release as the company struggled to meet the demand.

On the flip side, Piper Jaffray's analyst Michael Olson claims that the iPhone X's sales is expected to grow up to the point where APPL could jump from $171 to $200. Going by the analyst, Apple may slash the price of iPhone X or introduce a cheaper version of the device as part of the 2018 lineup. The price cut will lead more people to buy the smartphone.

"We expect a lower priced X-gen option (likely the current iPhone X with a price cut) and we wouldn't be surprised to see a 'plus' X-gen model in 2018," said Olson.

Speculations are rife that three different iPhone models will be launched in 2018. One of which would be a direct successor to the iPhone, while another will be a Plus variant featuring a display as large as 6.5-inch. Other than that, there will be a third model with an LCD display.
