Apple iOS 11.3 is finally out.

Apple has finally rolled out the iOS 11.3 update for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The update brings an array of new features including the ability to turn off the processor throttling for iPhones with aging battery life. The update also adds new Animojis for the iPhone X, enhanced ARKit for better-augmented reality and more. Let's see what the new update has to offer:

Processing throttling

Processing throttling

The feature is the result of the bad press that Apple witnessed after it was discovered that the system automatically slows down the processor's performance to avoid unexpected shutdowns. Apple also issued a public apology and offered cheaper battery replacements programs.

But turning down the throttling also result in lower battery life. There are chances that the battery won't be able to provide enough power for some intense tasks. The best alternative to maintain the peak performance and avoid throttling is to get the old battery replaced.

The new feature only applies to the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus, SE, 6S / 6S Plus, 6 / 6 Plus as of now. Users will also see a new battery health option that will notify if the battery needs servicing.

Security and business chat

Keeping its privacy policies intact, iOS 11.3 continues to upgrade its mobile security. The system now offers a new privacy icon that shows up whenever Apple asks for a user's personal information. This will help users verify that the request is not fake.

The update also brings a Business Chat option that allows select businesses to chat with customers directly through the Messages app. Currently, the feature is in beta stage but is soon expected to see few big names join the bandwagon.

The ARKit has also been enhanced to enable AR apps to expand their reach to vertical surfaces such walls and doors. Earlier the ARKit only supported horizontal surfaces like tables, floors, chairs, etc. The kit can now recognize "irregularly shaped surfaces like circular tables."

With iOS 11.3, iPhone X users will get four new Animojis: Dragon, skull, lion and a bear will join the existing troop.

The Health app now has a new 'Health Record' section allowing patients to access their medical records instantly on their iPhone. But the feature only works with supported clinics, doctors, and care centers.

Bug fixes

Bug fixes

Besides all the new features, iOS 11.3 includes a slew of bug fixes. The update fixes the issues with Apple Smart Keyboard for the iPad that randomly disconnects at times.

Messages in iCloud and AirPlay 2 have also been removed from the final version of iOS 11.3. This also means you won't be able stereo pairing or multi-room playback through your Apple HomePod.
