Apple Rolls Out iOS 26.4 Update: Playlist Playground, New Emojis, Better Keyboard, and More

Apple has released iOS 26.4 for iPhone, and this one feels more like a cleanup update than a major leap.

Apple Rolls Out iOS 26.4 Update: Playlist Playground, New Emojis, More

There are a few new features, especially inside Apple Music, along with some smaller improvements across the system. But if you were expecting a bigger push around Apple Intelligence or a smarter Siri, that’s still not here.

Apple Music Gets Most Of The Changes

If you open Apple Music after updating, that’s where you’ll notice the biggest differences.

There’s a new feature called Playlist Playground, which lets you create playlists by simply describing what you want. You could type something like “late night drive” or “gym energy,” and it builds a playlist around that idea. It also adds a title and description, which makes it feel a bit more curated. For now, it’s still in beta.

Apple is also leaning more into discovery. There’s now a way to find concerts near you, based on the artists you already listen to. Alongside that, the app can suggest new artists that match your listening habits.

Another small but useful addition is offline music recognition. You can try to identify a song even without internet, and the result shows up once you’re back online.

Visually, things have changed a bit too. Album and playlist pages can now use full-screen backgrounds, and there’s a new Ambient Music widget that sits on your home screen with quick access to playlists like sleep or focus.

A Bunch Of Small But Useful Tweaks

Outside of Apple Music, the update is more about small quality-of-life changes.

You’ll find eight new emojis added to the keyboard, including things like an orca and a trombone.

The Freeform app gets more tools for creating and editing images, which makes it a bit more flexible if you use it regularly.

Reminders are easier to manage now. You can mark something as urgent and filter it more clearly inside Smart Lists.

Apple has also worked on keyboard accuracy, especially for faster typing. It’s one of those changes you probably won’t notice immediately, but it should feel smoother over time.

Some Changes Around Accessibility

There are a few updates here as well.

A new setting called Reduce Bright Effects aims to tone down flashes and intense visual elements. Caption and subtitle controls are easier to access, and the Reduce Motion setting now does a better job of limiting animations across the interface.

Still Waiting On The Bigger AI Features

The one thing that stands out is what’s missing.

While Playlist Playground uses AI in a limited way, the broader Apple Intelligence features, including updates to Siri, still haven’t made it into this release.
