Apple's latest 'Battery Health' feature: How useful is it?
How useful is Apple's latest feature?
Apple with its latest iOS 11.3 introduced a new feature called 'Battery Health' that shows the actual capacity of the battery of your iPhone. Although the device claims to be performing at its peak, it also shows that the battery can only hold up to 86 percent of the charge.
It's a known fact that the battery degrades over time, and there's absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. Although the feature is for the good, it's actually a move to rectify company's decision of slowing down the devices without users' consent, in order to avoid unexpected shutdowns.
Though there's no justifying the secret processing throttling of the iPhones, this new feature will warn users about their phone's battery life and encourage them to buy a new battery. Apple is currently offering good deals on battery replacements for certain models. And it's advisable to let the company handle the replacement for you instead of a third-party solution considering that the iPhones are sealed using proprietary screws, and it takes a specialized individual to unscrew them.
Gone are the days when smartphones had a plastic rear panel allowing users to take off the battery and replace it. However, Apple has never produced an iPhone that had the pop-off back panel.
So it's pretty evident that the new feature would help the company more than the users because if Apple really meant to make this information of some use to the users, it would design its devices in a way that are easy to repair without seeking company's help. In turn, it would help the company to make more profit when the users purchase new AppleCare+ plans that offer discounted battery replacements.
Apart from the 'Battery Health' feature, the iOS 11.3 update also brings an array of new features including new Animojis for the iPhone X, enhanced ARKit for better-augmented reality and more.
Keeping its privacy policies intact, iOS 11.3 continues to upgrade its mobile security. The system now offers a new privacy icon that shows up whenever Apple asks for a user's personal information. This will help users verify that the request is not fake. The update also brings a Business Chat option that allows select businesses to chat with customers directly through the Messages app. Currently, the feature is in beta stage but is soon expected to see few big names join the bandwagon.
