Apple's next flagship could be costlier than iPhone X
While iPhone X is currently the costliest smartphone from Apple, a more expensive iPhone could be on the way.
iPhones are not for everybody, and Apple has always targeted its products towards the affluent customers. Last year's iPhone X is currently the costliest smartphone ever made by the company, but a more expensive iPhone could be on the way. Analysts believe the Cupertino-based tech giant may bring an iPhone priced higher than the iPhone X. The smartphone is believed to be the successor to the iPhone X.
According to UBS analysts Steven Milunovich and Benjamin Wilson via Business Insider, the price of the 2018 iPhone X smartphone could be as high as $1100, which translates to approximately Rs. 72,100. Of course, this is just a prediction with no solid evidence to back up their claims. That said, if the prediction pans out, Apple could price the 2018 iPhone X at more than Rs. 80,000 (for the base model) in India.
The analysts, who previously worked at Apple, note that the company tries to maintain the price of its flagships once established. Interestingly, the iPhone-maker has convinced its customers to increase the average amount they shell out for the iPhones from $600 to $800.
Not everyone has the same opinion though. As per a recent report by DigiTimes, the 2018 iPhone X model could be relatively cheaper than its predecessor as the components for manufacturing won't cost as much as they did in 2017. DigiTimes Research analyst Luke Lin believes the total bill of materials used to make the 5.8-inch model will be 10 percent lower than that of the iPhone X.
The rumor mill has been quite active with the 2018 lineup of iPhones that will be launched in fall. Just like last year, three iPhone models are likely to arrive this year. However, all three iPhones could sport the edge-to-edge display with a notch at the top.
If recent reports are to be believed, one model will flaunt an OLED display, whereas the other two will come with LCD displays. The iPhones are also speculated to feature the 3D Face ID. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, however, holds a different opinion. According to him, there will be two OLED iPhones and a cheaper LCD model.
In any case, these are just speculations and more information is expected to come up in the coming months.
