Apple will reportedly launch only one OLED iPhone this year, along with two LCD iPhone models. This new report from DigiTimes opposes previous rumors that claimed the company will launch two OLED iPhones and one LCD iPhone in 2018. As per DigiTimes Research's senior analyst Luke Lin, the single iPhone model with OLED display will be featuring a massive 6.5-inch screen.

Apple may launch only one OLED iPhone this year with 6.5-inch display

The research analyst further claims that Apple is currently working on four next-generation iPhone models. There will be a 5.7 to 5.8-inch LCD model, a 6.0 to 6.1-inch LCD model, a 6.0 to 6.1-inch OLED model and a 6.4 to 6.5-inch OLED model. In case you are confused, the Cupertino giant could launch only the larger OLED iPhone this year, along with the LCD models. So the chances are that 2018's iPhone lineup will be similar to that of last year.

The analyst also says that Apple initially planned to launch the both the OLED models in 2018. Due to some unknown reason, however, the company had a different thought and it decided to go on with only one OLED iPhone and two LCD iPhones.

So does this mean we will get to the unveiling of three iPhone models in fall this year? Well, the answer would be maybe. The DigiTimes report mentions that Apple has not completely made up its mind yet. So there is a slight chance that the company will launch two OLED iPhones and two LCD iPhones.

For the entry-level segment, Apple is working a new cheaper model of iPhone which will be similar to the iPhone SE, notes the analyst. It is said to feature the wireless charging support, but it will not come with 3D face unlocking technology. Mass production for the phone is likely to begin in the Q2 2018, followed by its launch in either May or June.

Talking about the 2018 lineup of iPhones, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also published a new investor note a few days back, offering more details of the upcoming handsets. In contrast with the DigiTimes report, Ming-Chi believes there will be two OLED iPhones, and an LCD model.

According to him, the LCD model will have a display of 6.1 inches and one OLED model will feature a display of 5.8-inches. Lastly, the other OLED model which will probably be the direct successor of the iPhone X, will be fitted with a 6.5-inch display.
