‘Padfone' was a concept introduced by the Taiwan based OEM Asus with the launch of their first generation of devices back in April 2012. But know Asus want's to refresh the dated Padfone with a new one dubbed Asus Padfone S2.
What is a Padfone?
Many are already aware of this wonder child of Asus namely the Padfone. But just in case you aren't let me brief you about it. Padfone is not a single device by any means. It consists of two sibling a tablet and smartphone. The tablet possess a dock behind it to which the smartphone attaches itself. By doing that the user can experience a bigger display and a larger battery (the processing power comes from the smartphone only). This mean the smartphone can be used singly but not the tablet (as it lacks a processing unit!). So without further delay let's get to the point.
According to a new leak by Leaksfly the Padfone is dubbed to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC! Yes you heard that right! And just in case the device launches on the first quarter of 2016, as it's is supposed to be- then it may become one of the handful of devices to boast the latest SoC inside (it may be the first tablet to do so).
So far it seems like the crown of becoming the first Android device sporting SD820 might go with the next gen Huawei Nexus. Personally we are a little sceptical about it though-I don't think the SD820 will be available this year. Our views are also shared with Chinese gadget analyst Pan Jiutang!
He believes that the Qualcomm SoC will only become commercially available post March, 2016. And this is exactly when the Padfone S2 is tipped to launch.
The other leaked specifications of Asus Padfone include a 5.5 inch Quad HD (2560x1440) display, 4GB of RAM and a 20.7MP rear camera (possibly with Sony's IMX series of sensors). It will comes with 3060mah battery and two storage options viz. 16GB/32GB. The docking on the other hand would come with a 10.1 inch screen (no details about the resolution known as of yet). But it would have more juice under the hood by coming with a 5100 mah battery!
So far it seems that the Padfone will pack some decent specifications under the hood. To be honest, if the leaks turn out true, we would just love to get the hands-on the device post launch!
