Asus Zenfone 3 starts receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update

Asus has now started releasing Android 8.0 update for several of its smartphones. After announcing the update for Asus Zenfone 4 (ZE554KL) smartphones, the company has now started to roll out the Oreo update for Asus ZenFone 3 (ZE552KL), and Asus ZenFone 3 (ZE520KL) smartphones. Both the Asus smartphone variants will be now moved from Android 7.0 Nougat to Oreo.

Asus ZenFone 3 update comes at a size of 1.5GB in size and along with Oreo, it comes with the December security patch as well. The update should also come with the usual bug fixes and optimizations. The update is being rolled out as an OTA so it will be coming in phases meaning it will take time before Oreo hits all the units globally.

The good thing though is that Asus ZenFone 3 owners will be able to experience Android Oreo and its features hands-on. As such, Oreo brings in features like picture-in-picture, Smart Text Selection, Notification Dots, Android Instant Apps, Google Play Protect improved booting time, extended battery life and a whole lot more.

Meanwhile, Asus has also removed some relatively unpopular apps such as Minimove, Photocollage and Do It Later with the new update. Further, the Oreo update is said to bring Swipe up to All apps gesture like the one in Oreo default app launcher. Asus has said that the system update offers a friendlier UI design of the Settings menu.

Asus ZenFone 3 owners should receive a notification of the update. If not, then, they can always check for the update manually by going to the Setting page and then clicking on About phone tab and check for updates. If the device has got the update it will show it.

This is basically a firmware update so it is advised to back up all the date before installing the new OS. Users should have at least 50 percent battery or more and they should carry out the installation process over a Wi-Fi network. Using mobile network may cost additional data charges. It is important to remember these things during the time of installation of any major software update.
