Bezel-less Xiaomi Mi5 leaked: Will this kill the 'flagship killer'?

After the launch of the OnePlus Two, many have been left disappointed. Even we feel that the device is not the ‘Flagship Killer for 2016'. Thus expectations are quite high from the Xiaomi Mi5 - everyone is hoping for Xiaomi to make it big with their new device. But can it match up with the likes of Samsung, LG or even HTC? So far the answer is yes.

Here's a spy photo of the next gen Mi5 spotted by Gizchina. Having a look at the photo one can easily gauge the fact that the Mi5 is surely coming with a bezel less display, provided Xiaomi doesn't try an Elephone. Elephone is another Chinese OEM who has been in the headline in the past for touting bezel less devices and then coming up with smartphone having painted black bezels!

So far leaks suggest that the new device from Xiaomi Mi5 will be packing some interesting specs. It is said to come with a 4K display (this will give it an advantage of the OnePlus Two) along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 - the same SoC as seen on the Mi Note Pro. The RAM is also said to be bumped up to 4GB from the existing 3GB on the Mi4. Not much details are available about the camera though. Just in case the Shenzhen based company pops in a 20.7MP unit in the back then I am sure the OnePlus Two will be dead soon! Apart from that the device is said to feature a fingerprint sensor too.

There's also a word regarding the company launched a Plus version of the device with Snapdragon 820 inside. But I feel that won't be the case and I have two good reasons for that:

SD820 in probabilities won't be coming before the beginning of next year. So it's better not to expect devices donning the same SoC before March, 2016.

Secondly a SD820 Mi5 Plus would drive their present flagship Mi Note Pro to extinction. Going by Xiaomi's previous marketing strategies, I believe the company won't be doing anything like that.

No specific release date is not know yet. But I feel Xiaomi will launch the device soon, maybe at the end of August or the beginning of September. After all they would love to give a competitive advantage to their rival OnePlus.
