Celkon UniQ with 16MP camera, 3GB RAM launched in India at Rs. 8,999

Homegrown manufacturer Celkon Mobiles has launched a new smartphone in India. Dubbed as Celkon UniQ, it carries a price tag of Rs. 8,999. The company is yet to disclose the availability details, but the smartphone is expected to go on sale via both online and offline channels. The Celkon UniQ is a decent offering considering its price point.

Coming to the specs, the Celkon UniQ sports a metal chassis with a physical home button. The home button also functions as the fingerprint scanner. The smartphone is fitted with a 5-inch IPS display that delivers a HD resolution of 720×1,280 pixels. The display is also covered by a 2.5D curved glass on top for added protection.

Under the hood, the handset is powered by a quad-core processor running at 1.3GHz. The exact name of the chipset is not specified by the company. The Celkon UniQ offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space which is further expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card.

The camera department of the phone is pretty impressive. It is equipped with a 16MP rear-facing primary camera with an LED flash. Up front, there is an 8MP snapper for selfies and video calls. The selfie camera is also accompanied by a "Moonlight" flash.

On the software front, the new Celkon smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box. A 2,700mAh battery is there to keep the lights on. Besides this, connectivity options onboard include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, and Micro-USB.

Late last year, Celkon joined hands with Airtel to launch the Star 4G+ smartphone. While the smartphone's market price is Rs. 2,999, it can be purchased at an effective price of 1,249. To recall, the Star 4G+ features a 4-inch touchscreen display, dual-SIM slot, FM radio, and rear and front cameras.

The handset offers full access to all apps on Google Play Store, including YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Further, the 4G smartphone arrives pre-installed with MyAirtel App, Wynk Music, and Airtel TV to add to the online experience of customers.
