This is Where Indians Can Actually Get the Cheapest iPhone 18 Pro, And It's Not The US

If you are looking for the cheapest country to buy the iPhone 18 Pro, you are not alone, and you are right to ask. Every September the keynote ends and the rest of us do the same grim arithmetic.

The iPhone 18 series is here, the hardware is genuinely good, and the India pricing, inflated by GST and import duty, lands like a slap. So if you are already planning a strategic little holiday, or working out which cousin flies back next month, let me save you the research.

Then there is the wildcard, Apple’s first folding phone — iPhone Duo.

I have spent the past few months with my nose pressed against the hinges and crease lines of the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Vivo X Fold5, so a folding iPhone is easily the most interesting thing Apple has done in years.

The India price is a whopping Rs 2,99,900. In the US it is about Rs 1,90,200, and that is a saving of well over a lakh on a single phone.

So far the US looks unbeatable. It is not, and here is where it gets interesting.

So where should you actually buy

On pure price, the US wins. But once you factor in the UAE’s tourist VAT refund, the math changes.

Buy as a tourist in Dubai and you can reclaim the 5 per cent VAT at the airport on the way out, though the refund carries a small processing fee and residents cannot claim it.

That refund, plus no hidden sales tax of the kind that ambushes you at an American checkout, makes the effective UAE price competitive with the US.

For most Indians the deciding factor is simpler still. Dubai is a three-hour flight and a long weekend. A US trip is not something you do for a phone, but it does make sense if someone you know is flying into India.

The customs line nobody mentions

Every one of these breakdowns politely ignores the last hurdle. India’s duty-free allowance for a returning resident is Rs 50,000, and every phone here costs several times that. Technically the excess is dutiable at a steep rate.

In practice plenty of people walk through with an unboxed phone in their pocket and nothing happens. But that is a gamble you are taking knowingly, not a loophole, and on a Rs 3 lakh Duo it is a large sum to be casual about.

So, are you biting the bullet on Indian pricing, or already drafting the text to that one friend flying back from Dubai or US next week?
