ColorOS 17 to Focus on Performance and Stability Over Visual Overhaul, Oppo Confirms: Check Eligible Devices

The last few weeks have seen a wave of leaks suggesting that ColorOS 17 would adopt Apple-inspired Liquid Glass design elements. But an Oppo executive has now stepped in to clarify what's actually coming, and the picture looks a bit different from the rumours.

Chen Xi, a ColorOS executive at Oppo, took to Weibo to address the speculation directly. According to his post, ColorOS 17 will not arrive with a major redesign. Instead, the focus will be on improving the basic user experience, with new features being pushed to a later release.

ColorOS 17 Won't Be a Major Redesign, Oppo Executive Clarifies

What Chen Xi Actually Said

Chen Xi clarified that while Oppo's name has been tied to a "light field design" mentioned in some rumours, those references probably aren't about ColorOS. He added that while some competitors are aggressively pursuing Liquid Glass-style design, ColorOS 17 won't change significantly in this direction and will continue to focus on core user experience improvements.

He also noted that the summer development phase typically lines up with optimisation work, so this is the period where the team will refine the core experience. New features, he said, will be postponed for a later rollout.

ColorOS 17 Beta Is Already Live on the Find X9 Pro

ColorOS 17 isn't entirely theoretical at this point. Oppo has already been running early Android 17 beta builds on the Find X9 Pro since March this year, making it the only device in Oppo's lineup currently testing the next version of Android.

The early builds have shown a few refinements over ColorOS 16, including updated animations for Live Alerts with deeper blur effects, a new Homescreen Organise feature that lets you categorise apps by colour, a glow effect on the lockscreen PIN screen, and a deeper Gaussian blur in the Photos app. These are subtle changes consistent with what Chen Xi is now describing.

Which Oppo Phones Are Expected to Get ColorOS 17

Oppo hasn't released an official eligibility list yet, but based on the company's ongoing update commitments, here's the broad shape of what to expect.

The Find X series is the highest priority, with the Find X9 Ultra, Find X9 Pro, Find X9, Find X9s, Find X8 Ultra, Find X8 Pro, Find X8, Find X7 Ultra, Find X7, Find X6 Pro, and Find X6 all expected to be on the list. Find N foldables, including the Find N5, Find N3, Find N3 Flip, and Find N2 Flip, will also be among the first to receive the update.

For the Reno series, eligible devices are tipped to include the Reno 11, Reno 11 Pro, Reno 12 series, Reno 13 series, Reno 14 series, and Reno 15 series. Several F-series devices, K-series phones, and Oppo Pad tablets are also expected to be included.

One notable absence is the entire Oppo A-series lineup, since these phones generally don't have clearly defined update commitments. Around 50 Oppo devices in total are expected to be eligible.

When Will the Update Roll Out?

ColorOS 17 is expected to launch alongside the Oppo Find X10 series in September or October this year, after Google releases stable Android 17. Find X phones are likely to get the update first, followed by Find N foldables, then the Reno series, with F, K, and Pad devices following later.

What This Means for India

For Indian users, ColorOS 17 is expected to follow a phased rollout pattern similar to ColorOS 16.

ColorOS 16, which launched globally in October 2025, has been gradually rolling out to Indian Oppo devices since late 2025, with the rollout extending through Q1 2026.

ColorOS 17 is likely to follow a similar pattern, with Find X and Reno series devices arriving in India a few weeks to a couple of months after the global launch. Mid-range and budget devices, including the K-series and F-series phones, are expected to receive stable builds well into 2027.
