Dissecting the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+’s Camera
OPPO is well-known for its advancements in smartphone photography, and its latest offering, the Reno 10 Pro+, introduces a unique periscope lens design to its camera module. This design enables a slim and lightweight telephoto lens, minimizing the camera bump typically associated with devices featuring optical zoom or telephoto lenses.
The periscope design, with its 3x optical telephoto setup, allows for capturing well-proportioned portraits with a soft bokeh background and brings distant elements closer to the subject, creating more dramatic snapshots.

Overcoming Traditional Limitations
Traditional smartphones with optical zoom or telephoto lenses tend to have thicker camera bumps due to the stacked lenses required. However, OPPO's periscope lens design overcomes this limitation by utilizing a vertical height workaround.
In the Reno 10 Pro+, the telephoto lens and sensor are positioned sideways within the periscope design. By employing a prism, the optically-stabilized telephoto lens is angled at 90 degrees, directing light onto the image sensor. This configuration allows for a telephoto lens module that doesn't protrude excessively from the phone. Compared to other devices, the periscope module in the Reno 10 Pro+ is 0.96mm thinner.
Enhancing Portrait Photography
The 3x telephoto lens in the Reno 10 Pro+ enables capturing portraits from a distance, similar to a DSLR camera, resulting in more natural facial proportions without the mild fish-eye distortion that can occur when shooting from closer distances. These portraits showcase a natural optical bokeh effect, separating the subject from the background and adding depth to the photographs.
Additionally, in outdoor environments, the telephoto lens compresses the perceived distance between the portrait subject and distant elements like monuments, buildings, and mountains, resulting in compelling and well-composed portraits.
Impressive Specifications
The telephoto portrait camera in the Reno 10 Pro+ boasts an industry-leading 64MP resolution, making it the highest megapixel telephoto camera available. Equipped with a 1/2-inch image sensor and optical image stabilization (OIS), it allows for capturing portraits with up to 3x telephoto zoom. The camera also offers impressive 120x hybrid zoom capabilities and has a closest focus distance of 25cm.
Low-Light Performance and Other Features
In low-light conditions, the telephoto lens excels at gathering light, enabling brighter and clearer portraits with reduced noise while maintaining the natural ambiance of the scene.

Alongside the telephoto camera, the Reno 10 Pro+ features three other impressive shooters. The main snapper boasts a 50MP resolution, a large 1/1.56-inch sensor size, optical image stabilization (OIS), and all-pixel omnidirectional focus for stability and clarity in images.
The device also includes an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a 112° field of view and a 1/4-inch sensor, and a 32MP front camera with autofocus (AF) for selfies and facial recognition in low-light conditions.
Advanced Imaging Processing
To enhance image processing capabilities, the Reno 10 Pro+ incorporates the Ultra-Clear Imaging Processing Engine powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 platform. This engine ensures ultra-clear photos with precise preservation of every detail.
Optical Enhancements
OPPO pays attention to optical performance by equipping the camera lens with an anti-reflective ALD (atomic layer deposition) coating, maximizing light transmission to the sensor. This coating reduces light reflectivity by up to 70%, resulting in clearer and more vibrant images with minimized unwanted reflections.
The blue glass is also treated with a spin-coating process, creating a thin film that absorbs infrared light and prevents stray light, enhancing overall optical performance and producing sharper and more precise images while minimizing artifacts caused by stray light.
Incorporating Advanced Algorithms
OPPO devices leverage proprietary algorithms, filters, and photo-editing tools to beautify portrait images. The Reno 10 Pro+ incorporates camera algorithms specifically designed for 4K videos, expanding the dynamic range by four times by combining long- and short-exposure image information in real-time.
The AI Noise Reduction (AINR) algorithm intelligently identifies noise pixels in night-time videos, reducing noise for improved video quality. Additionally, the AI Depth algorithm calculates precise depth maps for beautiful bokeh effects by analyzing the distance between objects and characters in the background.
To ensure natural-looking and evenly-exposed videos, the data processed by OPPO's algorithms is transferred to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC for exposure and color adjustments using independently developed 3A (Autofocus, Autoexposure, Autowhitebalance) algorithms.
With the Oppo Reno 10 series, you can expect high-resolution images with vibrant colors, sharp details, and excellent dynamic range.
