End of an Era: HMD Global Drops Nokia Branding for Smartphones from Website
HMD Global has been making Nokia-branded smartphones for over seven years. However, the company recently confirmed it would sell HMD-branded smartphones soon and the rumors of an upcoming HDM smartphone are already doing the rounds.
Thus, spelling the end of an era with Nokia. This suggests a transition from Nokia-branded smartphones. The first HMD smartphone is expected to make its debut at MWC 2024 in Barcelona.

End of an Era
HMD Global is returning to its original MD brand, bringing with it new partnerships and collaborations. The upcoming portfolio will include smartphones, tablets, and feature phones. The company's website and user experience have been changed to reflect this transition, with the branding now showing HMD Global and MD instead of Nokia.
The company's website reads, "We're still makers of Nokia smartphones and Nokia dumbphones, but we're getting warmed up to bring you even more, including original HMD devices, and phones from all-new partnerships."
While the name and exact launch date of the first MD-branded smartphone are unknown, recent leaks suggest it will feature a powerful rear camera, boosted by a 108-megapixel sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
HMD Global's History and the Nokia Brand
Founded in 2016, HMD Global acquired the rights to the Nokia brand for mobile phones and tablets for ten years. The Nokia brand has coexisted alongside HMD Global's smartphones and feature phones ever since.
However, this new shift to the MD brand signifies a new era for the company as it moves away from the Nokia name. In addition to the upcoming MD-branded devices, HMD Global is reportedly collaborating with Google and Jio to develop 4G feature phones for the Indian market.
This collaboration highlights HMD Global's commitment to expanding its product range and catering to different consumer segments. Stay tuned to Gizbot for more information about HMD's first smartphone and the future of Nokia.
