Essential Phone gets the camera update everyone was waiting for
The Essential PH-1 finally gets the camera push it required.
Essential, since it forayed in the smartphone market has seen a lot of hurdles, but that doesn't take away the quality of its first product, the Essential Phone PH-1. The device excelled in both hardware and software departments.
Back in May 2017, the company unveiled and the PH-1 and reviewers got the chance to get their hands on the device. Many of them were dissatisfied with the performance of the camera. The smartphone delivered an average camera experience.
The since then the company has been poised for upgrading the camera functionality of the device. Now Essential has started rolling out yet another camera update that adds High Dynamic Range (HDR) functionality to the camera.
The Auto-HDR mode which has been lacking since the launch of the device has been the primary addition. The new update will also include several general stability fixes. As the name suggests, the new feature will automatically recognize optimum conditions and users won't have to manually flip a toggle to take HDR photos.
The company also took to Twitter to announce the new addition. The company said it will improve the overall performance and scene rendering while taking HDR shots. The update also brings Dynamic HDR and flash indicators specifically for Auto-HDR.
Essential Phone users on Reddit have already praised the noticeable upgrade and company's commitment to push timely updates after the launch.
As for the device, the Essential PH-1 was unveiled in July 2017 with a 5.71-inch LTPS IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1312 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:10. The device makes use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage.
It comes equipped with a dual: 13 MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, phase detection, laser autofocus and LED flash. For selfies, the company has thrown in an 8MP shooter.
The other goodies on board the Essential Phone include a USB Type-C port with support for fast charging, and a 3040mAh battery as well. Sensors on the phone include the Fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer. It comes in four colour variants namely: Stellar Gray, Ocean Depths, Black Moon, Pure White.
