Essential PH-1 to skip Android 8.0 and leapfrog to 8.1 Oreo
Essential Phone will not receive the stable Android 8.0 Oreo build, thanks to the several stability issues that exist.
Essential PH-1 received the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update a month back. Given that the device runs close to stock Android, it should have got the stable version of the update without much delay. But the update hasn't hit the smartphone and it looks like it will not make its way to the device. Well, the recent report that is making rounds on the internet is that the Essential PH-1 will directly jump to the Android 8.1 Oreo.
Going by a tweet posted by Essential, the PH-1 will not receive the stable Android 8.0 Oreo update. The device is claimed to be witnessing several stability issues with the build and the company believes that these issues will be resolved with the Android 8.1 Oreo update. However, it might take a couple of weeks more for the final update to be rolled out to the smartphone so we can expect it to happen sometime in mid-February though there is no exact date for the same.
The company further states that it will release a beta version of the Android 8.1 Oreo update to the interested users. Based on the feedback that it receives from the users of the device, it will fine tune the beta build and resolve the issues they face in the stable Android 8.1 Oreo build that will come in February.
This news might be disappointing for those users of the Essential PH-1 who have been waiting for the Oreo update. But the company assures that the two weeks of time will give users a delighted Android 8.1 Oreo experience on their smartphones. Let's hope that the update is worth the wait with many new features and improvements as there is an additional wait for a fortnight.
The Essential PH-1 was unveiled in July 2017 with a 5.71-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 7312 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:10. The device makes use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage space. The other goodies on board the Essential Phone include a USB Type-C port with support for fast charging, and a 3040mAh battery as well.
