Exclusive: Coolpad working on a 6.2-inch Flagship smartphone for Q1, 2016
Chinese smartphone company, Coolpad recently launched the Note 3 smartphone that boasts a fingerprint scanner at a very aggressive price point in India. On the sidelines of the Coolpad Note 3 smartphone launch in Delhi, Coolpad India CEO Syed Tajuddin told us that "The company is planning to bring a new flagship smartphone with high-end specifications, and a sub-Rs 10,000 smartphone to India."
Coolpad is prepping these phones for first quarter of 2016, and will be launching them in China and India around the same time. Tajuddin said that India is an important market for them and they don't want a difference in their product launch timeline in India. "Normally, in China, flagship products are launched in January and February, around the Chinese New Year. Therefore, the launch timeline for this upcoming flagship has been kept for January or early February, in both India as well as China."

Tajuddin revealed that there new flagship will be a spec-heavy, with features like "a 6.2-inch QHD display, octa-core chipset, dual-cameras for front and rear with similar megapixel count, and more. The upcoming smartphone will also feature a fingerprint scanner like the Note 3." The R&D team is working on the device, and the final product may have slightly different specifications.
Besides the flagship smartphone, Coolpad is also working on a sub- Rs 10,000 device, which can be expected in December end in India. "This smartphone will be feature-rich and priced aggressively. You can say that this will be a new year's gift to our consumers," Tajuddin said.
Currently the company is focusing on the Note 3 in India, is expecting good tractions for the phone. Speaking about the Note 3, XXX said that "We never wanted to follow other players who don't care about masses. We care about the consumers, mass consumers. Hence, we decided on bringing a smartphone with great specifications, and priced sensibly, so that the common man can also access advanced features."
India is an important market for them, and they plan to invest $300 million in Manufacturing and R&D in India in next few years. The company plan to acquire 3-5 percent of the market by 2017 and for that they will be coming up with more of feature-rich and aggressively-priced smartphones in the country India. For now, Coolpad has partnered with Videocon to manufacture smartphones in India. They expect half a million units to be assembled in Videocon's Maharashtra unit, and is looking forward to launch their first phone under Make In India initiative towards Q1 of 2016.

As for now, the company has tied up with Amazon in India to sell the Note 3 exclusively at Amazon.in, however going forward, the company will made their devices available via offline retail channels. It is in talks with distributors however nothing has been finalized as yet. For the time being, it will continue to sell products online in exclusive partnership with Amazon.
